There was no match , it was like watching a boxer cornered cashing in punitions and struggling to stay up.Ishikawa,by far the best japanese player, wasn t there and Japan missed him. Nishida got an incredible amount of monster blocks and France kept spiking without encountering real resistence. The great japanese floor defence was not enough. Japan started the vln very well ,they gave everythink they could from the very beginning , but today we really saw his limits.France played well ang got a victory without any extraordinary effort.

Even though Japan probably still would have lost with their captain, his absence means way too much more than that of any other player😢😢 Although the other OHs are good, none can level with Ishikawa. His selflessness during plays really helps bring out his teammates' strong points. Today Nishida was easily marked more without Ishikawa and he himself must have felt A LOT of pressure knowing he had to lead his team with the attacks🥲 Good job to Japan and great match France you totally deserve that spot in the semis!

Japan preparing the next gen with youngsters on the court for the entire match, and still getting close to taking a decisive first set is incredible. France deserved to win, but Nippon guys could really have gone further if they'd had to play against the others quarters-losers. 2023 will be your year 🇯🇵 !!

@@francybenz it used to be that way, but since the Olympic qualification rules changed and now world ranking is one of the important criteria, that’s not the case anymore. I think Japan has has a problem with the depth of his bench, there is not enough world class players. When Ishikawa and Nishida are on fire, the team is unstoppable. But when they are not good or not present, you need others players who carry the team on their shoulder and it's not the case. France won 3-0 with Ngapeth, Boyer, Tonniutti on the bench.

France and Japan both had their best player injured (Ngapeth and Ishikawa) which was unfortunate. Rough start from France in the 1st set , Nishida did not played well (4% attack efficiency , which is way below-average and for his standards).
