I'll explain it to you briefly: due to some playing difficulties that recurred in certain matches, half of the players contested the old coach (Mazzanti) with the national federation. As a result of this protest, the coach no longer calls up Egonu, De Gennaro and Bosetti to the national team. In practice, half of the starting team that you saw play was no longer even called up and the team's results began to decline. At this point the Federation had to intervene by sacking the coach and calling a new coach (Velasco) who is the same as the "generation of phenomena" of the men's team of the 90s. This then chose Bernardi as collaborators, in his time awarded by the FIVB as "best player of the century", and Barbolini considered one of the most capable Italian coaches. In practice, these super technicians had to recompose the team by overcoming the tensions and potential enmities that had arisen in the locker room less than a year ago. This is why the team you see still doesn't play as fluidly and calmly as they could do based on their technical ability. The emotional rifts that had been created between players are still closing. I think as they continue to play they should level up by at least 20-30%. In any case, you will not see the complete team playing in this Olympics, as Pietrini will be missing as she underwent shoulder surgery a few days ago and is therefore convalescent. I hope I have given you some interesting news that you didn't know.

I thought for sure we would see plummer just on the very fact she can put up a nice block to maybe slow down egonu at some times, because with egonu, bos and vargas you just need to soow them down or get in their head a little bit, you can never fully stop them. The one person I was afraid of was Plummer because she knows all the players in the Italian league. She played well against Egonu. What a relief she did not play! Are Poulter and Plummer injured? I would like to think that USA chose not play with their strongest team because they might face Italy again in Olympics, but I am not too sure anymore. USA don’t have VNL finals guaranteed yet... Did the coach change the lineup because they have higher chance to beat Japan? Anyways, I am so proud of Italy because the team is getting more comfortable with each other and the players are in good shape (maybe except Bosetti with minor injury). I hope we see an even stronger Italy at this Olympics 💙🇮🇹💙

Italy has such strong line up and their bench reserve is just as good. Fahr, Danesi and peak Lubian are so scary at the net. Egonu and Sylla very strong in their positions. Definitely see them on the podium at the olympics because this level will only rise from here till Paris. USA needs more playing time together, they remind me of Brasil last year when new players had joined the main line-up but the team as a whole was still not synchronized so they were not playing their best.

Egonu (22 punti anche oggi) che attacca di fioretto e di sciabola è una gioia per gli occhi; Antropova che entra e nel poco tempo che è impiegata ci va giù con il maglio e fa il suo egregiamente, senza nemmeno la paura di essere murata, è una gioia per gli occhi; Degradi attenta in ricezione come oggi è una gioia per gli occhi perché in attacco non le manca nulla e, oltretutto, è l'unica banda che attacca la pipe. A Itália é uma equipe já formada e bem equilibrada em todas as posições, diferente da seleção brasileira que ainda busca a melhor configuração, com jogadoras muito jovens, uma atacante com experiência e muito determinante, Gabi, e uma meio de rede remanescente dos dois títulos olímpicos. Thaisa. Ainda temos alguns momentos de instabilidade, que precisam ser minimizados até a estréia nos jogos olímpicos, e definição de convocadas.

No jogo contra o Brasil, qual seria o vencedor lógico naquele set onde o Brasil estava muitos pontos atrás? Teríamos perdido por 3x1. I do agree with you, USA's opposites are not at the same level of other top opposites. We saw that also with Thompson at Vakifbank this year. They are very good but not decisive most of the times. But USA can rely on strong outside hitters and middle blockers to compensate this lack

The opposites did well, this was maybe thompson's best performance, as she's been struggling, If you combine the amount of sets the opposites got, they add up to slightly more efficiency than egonu who got slightly more sets than the 2 combined. The difference is Egonu is key in out of system transition and only drews can do that, but they are not going to feed drews all the balls. USA plays a balanced game but they don't have a balanced team for that. The outsides struggles to score at times and Italy capitalized 90% of the time, thats the other big difference for me. I am not sure why Kiraly thinks that playing Larson and cook together is a good idea. He has the wisdom, experience and history to know thats not the best match up. We also could use someone like plummer blocking egonu over the other outsides...plummer has the most recent experience doing that specifically...but she was not even on the bench? Is Kiraly trying to make some type of point here? Our biggest achievement was taking Turkey to 5 sets and losing...this is not the USA volleyball we are used to...
