Randall Rambler (later Randall AMC) Mesa Arizona,modified AMC vehicles to compete with the COPO Camaro and the,Shelby Mustang. Legend has it these AMX's and the 'souped up ' Gremlins were beating Big Block Corvettes of the day. AMC actually provided customers with High Performance parts from the factory including intakes, carburetors, headers and rear axles. The fact that this car is a GEM is one thing, the fact it has those high performance parts is another thing and might I suggest the history of how the AMX finally came to production is a totally amazing story. @@VoloMuseumAutoSales From my investigations I remember a customer had 2 choices. 1. Purchase the car, order those high performance parts from AMC & put them on himself. 2. Purchase the vehicle from Randall AND THIS IS IMPORTANT have Randall do the upgrades. This car in that aspect is a collectable just like Yenko Chevrolet custom builds. Randall was an unspoken legend. And as I mentioned earlier, AMC was making history with these high performance AMX'S. AMC was at the top of the factory muscle car game. The unnoticed history is phenomenal!

Being a teenager when this car was introduced, I can attest that there was a huge negative bias with anything built by AMC among young gearheads of the era. Locally there were a couple of guys who loved to go against the pack, one bought a new AMX with these modifications (had a 4-speed), and he regularly cleaned the clocks of the GMs, Fords, and Mopars in our “unofficial” drag races. The car in this video is an absolute gem with all those options. Would be a huge hit at car shows.

The original group 19 Distributor does not have vacuum advance, had a black two piece Mallory cap with press in wires. And of course dual points. That’s a unilite electronic. Group 19 intake had a Holley 3 Barrel carburetor. Also that’s not a correct air cleaner housing. But you are correct it is a very very nice AMX.
