Thank you! Your comment about "hack your neighbors TV" reminded me of freshman year in college back in the 80s -- I had a JVC component system, one of the guys in the room next door did as well. Found that my remote would control his system (even though his was a more expensive model). So would go outside and turn his volume up or down, as a prank. :)

If you put a passcode in it will stop the battle over the remote, of course you will still lose in the long run. I found one way to see if the remote was transmitting is to point it at your smart phone camera and press a button on the remote, the camera sees IR and you can watch it flash if its working.

I would like to use it for Meshtastic like the Lilygo T-Deck, but it's not yet supported - perhaps the Meshtastic project could use some development samples (hint to m5stack). Another application would be as a PDA running custom software, immune to Android or iOS malware.

I just bought a thermal receipt printer - the paper is on a roll 58 mm wide and it should be just right for incoming Meshtastic messages. Bluetooth is strictly optional.

The cardputer doesn't have a built-in LoRa transceiver so you'd have to add a semtech chip or any that's compatible with Meshtastic, as long as you can connect it to the cardputer using SPI. I'd rather use my own low-level LoRa protocol or LoraWAN as-is because it's more flexible than going through Meshtastic or TTN's cloud infrastructure, but if you already have some Meshtastic infrastructure going then just get the right LoRa module and it should work fine with the ESP32

Great stuff! I was able to upload your code successfully, but when trying to turn the device on again, the screen stays black. I had to reflash with easyloader. I'm new to this so maybe I'm missing something. Any Idea what could be the reason?

Is it possible to keep loading apps on so you end up with multiple apps stored etc ? If so how many can be stored etc and how easy is it to add them to a menu?

If this M5 device can run a firmware image that is set up to run scripts in a language such as Python (or Lua, or even JavaScript, for example). Then you can have multiple "apps" (scripts/programs) stored as separate *.py files on a filesystem stored inside flash memory. But I don't know about driver support for the LCD, keyboard, GPIO, wireless communication, etc. if you switch to Python instead of Arduino C/C++ 🤔

@@RichardNobel Just search for 'MicroPython on the ESP32' to get all the info. I/O support is native. By using a uSD card there's no practical limit to the size of complexity of what you can make.

reacting to cables? just put switch in on position and plug in usb. If this dont work your device is probably bricked

anyone have a problem with these yet? not much out there. i flashed the thing with the m5launcher to try out the multiboot function. i put one firmware on the sd card, the gameboy firmware. it worked fine. then i added another. it loaded the gameboy with the multiboot menu not showing. then i try to put the m5launcher back on there. without the sd card, now all i get is a black screen and with the usb cable attached it connects and then repeatedly makes the usb disconnect sound. this cardputer is DEAD, it won't do anything now. I cant even use the m5burner to put the original firmware on it. any ideas? im stumped.
