Pro Soloist is the latest in Cherry Audio's roster of ultimate "what if?" virtual instruments. Featuring the precision-crafted and circuit-modeled DSP designs of award-winning developer Mark Barton, Cherry Audio's Pro Soloist goes beyond emulating the treasured, preset-based monophonic analog synth originally released by ARP in 1972. Pro Soloist not only exactingly reproduces the expressive controls, 30 presets, and the unique underlying architecture of this prog rock classic, it breaks it out of its cage by making it fully programmable and expanding it with full polyphony, splits and layers, a mod matrix, integrated studio-quality effects, and more.

i just want to say THANK YOU!!! i've been a taurus and pro soloist user for decades, and have never been able to fully realize those amazing synths in VST form, though Anti's Taurus.dll and Pro SoloVST from AM Music came close. however, BOTH which ceased to be available once i switched to mac, and then went 64 bit many years ago now. those were treasured plugins, and recreations i have been PRAYING would be revisited SOMEDAY by somebody. ANYBODY. then, this year, within a span of two months, i scored both emulations from you. i'm so incredibly happy, not only to finally have software counterparts to my hardware, but BRILLIANT recreations to boot. they just get me "there" flawlessly, and i never have to worry about my vintage pieces being exposed to the road again. thank you so much for your amazing products!!!

It looks good and thanks for "bringing the Pro Soloist" back to VST format (a good was was out years ago that replaced my original). Not surprisingly, the most inspirational keyboardist to me is given the shaft and not mentioned in the promotional video as a classic use of the synth. And we're talking about, Dennis Deyoung of Styx. He was an early user of this instrument along with the 2600. Styx was once the most popular band in America. Surely deserves a mention when it comes to some of the ARP's or Oberheim's. I had Dennis sign my Pro Soloist. Sadly, the pen we gave him didn't work so all I got was an impression of it. Of course, Tony Banks is my 2nd most inspirational keyboardist to me, or tied. All the rest like Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson and others come well after them. I've seen all the greats on tour though back in the day with their most famous bands.

I have an ARP Pro/DGX and did an A/B comparison. For me, this is either spot on or very, very VERY close in every sound I tried. Great job Cherry Audio! And thank you!

Thank you, thank you. I actually spent more time matching the stock presets than coding the instrument. There are so many variables you have to get spot on. When I thought I was done, I went around all 30 multiple times adding little tweaks here and there. It took weeks. Then two more people went at it to put on final touches, so to find out we got "VERY" close is "VERY" satisfying. Thanks again.

@@mrbmodules2938 you did a fabulous job and your hard work is very much appreciated. The Brilliance slider didn’t always match up to my specific unit, but that’s a 10-second adjustment and then all is well. I’m amazed that you were able to replicate it so well, not to mention all the additional features and control that we now have!!

Love my ProSoloist.. I was never that much into Genesis and prog rock usage though... for me it was all about jazz funk and Johnny Hammond Smith... loved his solo on Lost On 23rd Street... think it's the trombone preset... also Judy Roberts Never Was Love... the key thing is definitely the aftertouch effects though... lots of weird stuff there... My ProSoloist is still in bits however...

I keep on my opinion: 1-The main synth is an ARP Pro Soloist (or the DGX which is nothing else than a kind of improved Pro Soloist). 2-And in the big case there could be an organ as a Hammond B3 or a Hammond L122. The ARP (Pro Soloist or Pro DGX) was used by a good number of prog rock bands from 1973 to 1980 and it is (the Pro Soloist) the synth used by Tony Banks on Colony of Slippermen (though it was not his most famous use of this synth)... and the Hammond B3 (and sometimes the L122) was abundantly used by absolutely ALL the bands which have their sticker on the big case. All !

@MPHORROCKS

I've emailed Waldorf so many times and they couldn't give a toss about the PPG, it seems. I heard that Brainworx had bought the rights but now it's NI who know what'll happen. Let's hope a decent company take up the gauntlet.

Waldorf has done a perfectly good job with the PPG VST already.
@celebutante
@celebutante 8 ай бұрын
It's difficult to make a PPG sound right in modern form because of the archaic way they did digital back then. That's why none of the Waldorf variants or plug-ins sound right. Apparently 3rd Wave did a pretty good job.
@heinerbreuer6160
@heinerbreuer6160 8 ай бұрын
Resizable GUI for the PPG would really be appropriate by now. The other Waldorf VST have resizable GUIs, but they do not store the chosen setting and will launch in default size every next launch. That should be improved.

I feel the opposite, when you add effects to a vintage synth it loses its raw character and identity. I use a chorus and a little bit of reverb from time to time (it depends on the song)

@CherryAudiovst
@CherryAudiovst 8 ай бұрын
The Pro Soloist is a very different synthesizer from the Quadra! The architecture of the Pro Soloist is extremely unique, and the sounds that it makes can't be recreated with any vintage synthesizer short of a modular synthesizer. You should try the demo and hear it for yourself!
@dulleeblogondy3020
@dulleeblogondy3020 8 ай бұрын
@@CherryAudiovst Not true. Quadra is capable of everything Soloist did and MORE. Quadra was an amalgam of every decent ARP synth available by 1978. It failed as proper polysynth upon launch, yet every best tech ARP had at the moment was thrown at Quadra. Strings, leads, bass, synth section. And a very unique 14-stage phase shifter. Tony Banks successfully replaced Soloist with Quadra as soon as it became available and didn't look back since.
@CherryAudiovst
@CherryAudiovst 8 ай бұрын
@@dulleeblogondy3020 We'll agree to disagree, especially as Quadra (a fine instrument, no doubt) shared virtually no common components with the Pro Soloist, especially the resonator bank. Quadra was an amalgam of Odyssey, Omni, and Solina. We know both instruments exceptionally well. It's a comparison between an apple and an orange, though they are both fruit from the wonderful tree of ARP Instruments!
@mrbmodules2938
@mrbmodules2938 8 ай бұрын
As the author of the DSP of this synth, allow me to put a lid on this argument. The Quadra is definitely not capable of producing Pro Soloist sounds. It lacks the resonators and other capabilities that are crucial to the Soloist's personality. In fact no keyboard synth-in-a-box can duplicate it. I challenge you to recreate the CELLO or FUZZ GUITAR sounds on the Quadra. It simply cannot be done. The fact that Tony Banks started using the Quadra doesn't mean it sounded the same.
@dulleeblogondy3020
@dulleeblogondy3020 8 ай бұрын
@@mrbmodules2938 Then, I guess, I don't need cello or fuzz guitar patches. However, Tony Banks sounded just the same on Quadra as he did on Soloist. That is enough for me. If he couldn't recreate those early Genesis sounds on Quadra, he'd have to keep the Soloist. But he didn't. End of story.
