I just got the Toys R Us set with all 5 Lions in one box for less than 90 dollars this last weekend. I have not yet had a chance to unbox the set since my man cave is still a mess and I need to clean it up and put in the new shelf units to display all the collectables that I own. Thank you for showing how to put together and take apart Voltron with my luck I would have probably have snapped either Red or Green and broken the link.

Amazing video, and great review. I COMPLETELY agree with how Scary it is to separate the arms from the black lion. I really felt as though I was almost breaking the toy. I wish they added a quick separator similar to the legs. The arms (red & green lion) are a pain to separate from the body (black lion).

The more things change, the more they stay the same. The old die-cast DotU/GoLion Voltron from the 80s was stubborn about letting Red and Green go, as well. I broke Green's tail off separating it from Black once, when I was a kid. It was heartbreaking until my Dad brought me home a replacement green. I got them all at once in the hugely expensive complete set and didn't think you could get them individually so I thought Voltron was gone for good, or at least an amputee forever!

I actually have two sets of these lions to custom paint and make look really good, both as Voltron and the lions. Haven't opened them yet to see what I'm working with so this video really helped me get a feel for what I can look forward to and what customizing needs to be done.

the toys are so good quality! the one draw back is the voices. They don't should like any of them. Is this the old version toys?

The voices are generic voice actors, not the actual voice actors. We talked about this on our podcast interview with Jeff Trojan from Playmates Toys. The voice actors on the show are union actors, which would cost a great deal for Playmates Toys, and delay the production of the toys. This is a normal practice for many toy manufacturers to use generic voices in electronic toys.

The missing paint is nothing you can't fix yourself. Looks very cool, I wish they weren't so expensive. I was wondering if they had actual transforming lions, the stores here only have the Basic figures so I didn't even know these existed until I saw your video.

Been on a bit of a Voltron binge lately and just finished watching a bunch of reviews of classic DotU Voltrons and finally this, and this one beats out even the huge money DotU combiners. There's just a lot of articulation and pleasing fit and proportions here that even the modern retools of GoLion lack. I hope the old school design gets a toy that matches this level of quality eventually, but for now, even though it hurts my nostalgia bone, this is the one I want. I despise the plainness of the sword, but that's the cartoon's fault, not the toy's.

As a child I watched Voltron, but the toys weren't available by the time I turned 5. By then Transformers had transfixed me. I am 33 years old now and have been binge-watching the new Dreamworks series on Netflix. I am a child all over again! Then I found this video, then I went out and treated myself to the Green Lion today. I plan on collecting all of them. The only thing I will say. The paint job on these toys is missing fine details that the picture on the box has. The hips of the Green lion lean slightly left or right. No in-between. There was no need for the waist joint to have the click positioning. The joints of this toy click into position which is good and tight, but I predict wear n' tear over time if given to a child. The size of these lions are fantastic! You should see the Black lion in the shop. It's huge! Can't wait to collect the rest. £20 for each Lion except the Black Lion which is £35. Worth it if you've dreamed of owning Voltron. Gonna buy paints and super thin brushes to fill in the details for my collection.

Awesome toy. Ultimate version is more show accurate but in order to get a transforming version they did a pretty good job. The only issue I have with this guy would be the proportions, stability and clumsy articulation. But that's just me nitpicking :)

My green lion is easier to open up than my red lion and the red lions more tigher when I close it up from lion form to the arm form. Are you having same issues regarding the green lion? I have the Legendary lions version. I almost bought the basic set thinking they can combine, found out that was the Legendary set. When I got the Legendary set, my blue lion doesn't click to the black lions leg but yellow does, blue easily gets stuck to the black lion leg, red and green take a lot of force to remove. I had a heck of a time removing all 5 lions from their own boxes. Black, green, yellow, red lions I could easily find at my Walmart, Blue lion I had to order online. Now my problem is where to put the 16" Voltron when the lions are combined, the lions can easily set on my self when they separated but having a tall ass 16" Voltron just looks cool.

Ive had these on my shelf collecting dust, and last year introduced my boy to Voltron and showed him my Lions. We are letting him have one a week till his birthday, and today he got Black Lion. Our green Lion would not release out of its socket at all, and snapped off at the waist. Any idea how to get to loose? It depends on your tastes. If you like Classic Voltron more than Voltron Legendary Defender, than SOC Voltron is your choice, albeit a more expensive choice. However if you like the newest Voltron on Netflix more, you have to go with this fully electronic Voltron that has over 50 phrases and sounds and has the technology to know if you haven't combined all the lions or you've formed Voltron.
