VoltX premium plus 100Ah Lithium battery quick teardown review. 

Thought I’d just pop this up just so if you were looking at these batteries to see what they’re like internally. I will be doing a full test and review an comparison to the cheaper battery on a video in the near future.

I bought 4 of these batteries but the 24V 100AH "premium" version at a good price with an eBay sale hoping they work well together in parallel and last a while. They have a see through case (which is a gimmick but is actually cool) and the inside looks nice and neater than the one you've opened up. Great video I'm keen to see what exactly the type of cells are, great video!

So far with the little bit of testing I have done the cells hold change well, they stay at 3.4v after charging and the bms works very well. Only bad so far is all the screws holding the metal frame together where loose and the cells didn’t charge up evenly with one hitting 3.75v long before the others cells. I left the charger on and let the BMS do it thing and they all eventually charged up okay

I bought the previous "premium plus" version and it does its job (I'm only starting out), and just recently bought 3 of these (Just the other day and they come today). Judging, by the way, the inside looks, I can see why the bracket is on top unless that is your camera they may be prismatic on the outside, but are they pouched? Because of the way battery cells are warped. I wont be these again, but I saw reviews and they seemed to be pretty good. Pretty disappointed but... for now they will do

They look to be prismatic cells but the QR code will not scan unfortunately because of the way it is etched into the alloy my camera won’t pick it up. I have completely disassembled the metal support case around the cells and They have glued strips of insulating cardboard under the top metal cover so it can’t short out on the studs. I am a little disappointed with these batteries I thought they would be better than the cheaper version but I feel the cheaper version is assembled better. I’ll be doing a video soon comparing the new basic version of the battery and this premium plus series to see if it’s worthwhile spending the extra money or should you just cut open the cheap one and put in a better BMS. Like you I’m definitely no expert on lithium batteries but I’m having some fun mucking around with this cheap stuff.

For the money they don’t seem to be a bad battery and come with a five year warranty.

@@SJ-dn1lc I have just ordered the new version of the basic voltX battery so I can do a comparison between the 2 to see if you really need to spend the extra 200dollars on the better battery if you don’t have that higher current demand. I have two basic hundred amp hour voltX batteries in my camper and they work fine the only problem is they suffer badly from voltage sag they will settle back to 13.1 V very quickly which makes the battery monitor show a loss in capacity which there isn’t.

@@philsrandomstuff2392 is the warranty really 5 years? I’ve been reading the listings and all the info is conflicting. For example on one listing it says 5 year warranty, 3 year warranty and 12 month warranty on different parts of the same page.

Started doing test today. cell balance straight out the box was pretty good on one battery with only about 20 mV difference and the other battery with 120 mV difference, when I charge the battery with the 20 mV difference I ended up with a cell that ran all the way up to 3.75 V within about four minutes of having the charger on and three other cell sitting on 3.3 V what a shit show. The other battery charged on my 40 amp charger for 30 minutes before it cut out on high-voltage disconnect one cell also which was around 200 mV higher than the other three it looks like I’m going to have to individually charge the cells.

@@philsrandomstuff2392 Yeah, I am very interested in your findings. Be interesting if you top balance the cells and they remain fairly close together for a number of cycles. Bit of a concern that the bms hasn't been programmed properly with high cell overcharge. Looking fwd to the videos

I just bought the basic version today for a electric kayak motor. If I get a year or 2 out of it I'll be happy. Only seen these series of videos after the fact. Do you know if they've done any upgrades in the new "2022" or is it just a facelift on the case?

No idea if they have changed. But if they come up on sale on eBay I’ll get one

I think they updated them about a year ago. The old ones were only rated for 50 amps constant but they are now rated at 100 amps (the BMS inside is actually a 110 or 120 amp from memory).

I haven’t seen or done a tear down on the giant or itech, so far I don’t think it’s worth paying the extra for the premium plus voltX. Let’s see how they go when i run a few test
