Volume and Capacity for kindergarten and 1st grade

The understanding of the term "volume" can be gained by performing simple
experiments.
For example pouring water from a small container to a larger container and then the other way around.
Ask the child to compare the levels of the liquid in containers of the same volume.
Talk to the child about the size of containers with different volumes: small (cups), medium (mugs), and large (bottles).
