Haha, absolutely nailed how British people behave. There's something so magical about going into a shop to buy something and you and the person behind the till will exchange no less than four "Thank you's", and sometimes more. You give the person the item and say thank you as they take it. They say thank you as they take it from you. They will say thank you as they take your money and you should probably say thank you here too. You say thank you as you take the item. They will then thank you for your custom. You should then both say thank you as you exit the store. This is the correct way of doing things.

"as a British person, this never rings true to me" Perhaps it's like how certain chunks of American pop culture from the '80s only make sense if you bear in mind that Reagan was President and the Cold War was still going on. Alan Moore (writer of V for Vendetta) and PD James (writer of The Children of Men) wrote those works either during or soon after Margaret Thatcher's tenure as Prime Minister, while Yahtzee was seven when she was ousted from power. Not that I'm saying Yahtzee is wrong about the British people (notwithstanding UKIP,) but historical context is useful when considering plausibility in fiction.

I think people find the idea of a facist Britain intriguing due to its historical implications. It implies that the Nazis have successfully taken over Europe and god knows what happened next. This plethora of potential major events and intrigue factor keeps us engaged in this alternative history.

+phenompy Why do people get so up in arms about Association football being called "soccer"? It's still a correct name for the sport isn't it?
@HoodWeegee9 жыл бұрын
TheKeyser94(TL:DR at bottom) The thing is though, rugby IS football because football is an all-encompassing term a sport that involves kicking a ball to score such as association, gridiron (American and Canadian), rugby, Gaelic, and Australian rules. "Soccer" was originally a term to differentiate from rugby football before association football became the new name. Idk why it fell out of flavor, but that's a discussion for somewhere else. I tend to call association football "soccer" because in the US, football refers to gridiron or "American" which is way more popular here than in other parts of the world and association is a mouthful I don't want to say all the time. You can most likely tell where a person is from based on what they mean when they say football as there are many versions that are popular in different areas. If someone says soccer, it probably just means that association is not as popular as the version they mainly play where they're from. Either that or they're trolling to get under your skin. There is no reason to get mad about a name that correctly identifies a sport without slandering it. If I wanted to insult association (and I don't because I'm not suicidal), I could call it "kickyball" or something stupid like some association fans call gridiron "handegg", but I won't because football is technically a general term. TL;DR Football is by definition a general term that is only specified by popularity in a region and rules of the version. As long as no insults or slanderous names are thrown, why care about it?
