Volvo 544 Sport Championship Winning Race

The last race of the 2022 season of the Danish Masters.
Track: Ring Knutstorp, Sweden
Driver: Frederik Krarup Nielsen
This year Krarup&Nielsen Vintage Racing with it's driver Frederik, won the championship for the Group 3 Special Touring Cars in the Pre-66 class.
Racing on Dunlop CR65 it isn't always easy to maneuver a vintage Volvo fastly through corners. The original B18 engine will suffice on the straight, however the undercarriage lacks performance compared to some of the competitors on track.
Despite this, in the video you'll see an exciting race with a Volvo battling a Lotus Elan, Lotus Cortina and a Mini through the corners!
This is the most challenging race yet, and what an important race to be able to secure the championship. With this challenge and pressure Frederik rose to the occation and actually had the most fun ever on a race track.

Congrats for your great driving skills and thus the racing results. Your PV is extremely fast, wow!! :) Are you allowed to increase cc (B20+) in the Danish series or are you stuck with the B18? Maybe it's the mic or my ears, but it sounds as if the engine is running on SUs not Sidedrafts, which were actually homolgated only for the later Volvos? But with the power your PV delivers, i'm not sure... I assume that the camshaft is a more modern profile than the old Volvo racing profiles. I used to have a 300 deg F-cam in my Amazon some decades ago. Hope to see some more footage next season. Cheers, Patrick

Thank you Patrick! Glad you like our videos and there will definately be more of this stuff next season ;). According to the periodic correct regulations (pre '66) we are allowed to bore the original B18 to a maximum of 2000cc. This is due to the fact that our PV is tuned as a group 3 Special Touring Car for this period up to 1966. This also means we can run double Webers giving more power than the usual SU's run by group 1 an 2 touring cars. We also use a non-original and special camshaft according to the regulations.
