In this video I will be going over the differences between the cheap / budget J-Spec coilovers for a Volvo 740/940 and the expensive quality BC-Racing Coilovers. At the end of the video there is a summary of the key differences and which option would be best suited for your needs.

This comment relates more to stating my opinion, which is that I think Volvo reached the pinnacle of practicality in its design with the 740 model. To me, it is an elegant, timeless design.

Are there any coilers for these Volvos that can be revalved to how soft or stiff you want them?

What springrates do you like on the bc racing? With the spring poutch behind the axel if you use a 6k spring its realyacting like a 9k spring... And more springrate in the rear is wierd in my opinion 🤷‍♂️ would want a 4k one becaus that ends up beeng a 6k spring... So you end up with 8 or 10k front and 6k (realy 9k) rear

Hello! i dont know if this is the right media to talk to you, BUT, i've seen all your 940 videos and i have a question for you. The 960 has a different suspension, front and rear. do you have any idea or sollution for this when it comes to coilovers? Could be an interesting video! Truly enjoy your videos! Cheers from Sweden 🇸🇪

What do you recommend for me?? I want to drift with it but will the cheap ones hold up to the beating?

if you just wanna slam your volvo, jspec is a great option. Safer than the most popular option in sweden: cut springs. But the ride is pretty horrid honestly, and I think you are better off with a set of lowering springs and quality struts if you are looking for cheap performance.
@LucaCarMods

That was exactly my conclusion in the end of the video. J-Specs for slamming, springs + shocks for budget performance and BC for performance.

I had J-Spec coilovers on '99 V70 - for price was more than enough. Had them on for 3 years. Car is scrapped now but coilovers are alright. After last winter are a bit rusty and springs lost all the paint. As I said - for that price can't complain.

I've used j-scpec coils on plenty of cars, and i dont mind the stiffness to be honest. Tho they dont feel as stiff on a heavy car as on a lighter car. So if you plan to use them then I'd say have them on a heavier car and it will feel a bit smoother.
@vladchihaia1976

Would you consider an S60 D5 as heavier? I would consider J Specs, but I don’t wanna ruin the ride comfort all that much
@Jiiimmie
@Jiiimmie 2 жыл бұрын
@@vladchihaia1976 Its about 1500kg so its not a super heavy car. But I've had the coils on a golf mk2 thats like 1200kg or so. If not less. You wont ruin your ride if you dont go for the lowest setting. And we are all different so what I like and dont like might be the opposit for you. But it will be a stiffer ride thats a fact either way.

For just slamming your Volvo they appear to be a great option yes. At the moment they even have a discount and they cost only €399.. I feel you, both your options are really nice but expensive.

Did anyone use j specs on an S60? I’ve heard that they’re ok and I’ve heard that they’re terrible and I don’t know what to think anymore. The car is a daily and I do longer trips too (in the 500km range)

@@HenValsing Have had them on for a couple of weeks now, rear on the lowest possible setting. I'm not an expert but I personally don't mind trading a bit of the driving comfort for improved looks on my car. Obviously I can feel some road bumps more than I did before, but nothing extreme. (Although I have no idea if it's "bad" because I have no experience of other coilovers so I can't really compare.) I think they're great for me and there's great adjustability of ride height on these coilovers. For the price they're (probably) great. I got them for ~450 €. Now, for me the only thing to worry about is I've got the (mot?) car inspection coming up in about 1 month and don't know if they'll approve because as far as I'm aware they want to see some kind of certification for coilovers in Finland. J-Spec only provided an installment guide

D2 racing has a coilover kit for 740/940 volvo's. Front spring rate 8,7kg/mm and rear is 4,4kg/mm. They look like BC Racing coils and cost around 1100 euros. Damping is adjustable. Would they be a good alternative to BC racing coils for daily use?
@LucaCarMods
@LucaCarMods 2 жыл бұрын
The front spring rate is on the higher end but doable. In the rear 4,4kg should be spot on. I have not tried them out but as far as spring rate goes they are worth a try yes.
