Volvo 850 Restoration - Engine Mounts And Throttle Cable

The gas peddle on our Volvo 850 feels heavy and stiff and so we figured replacing the throttle cable might help. We also noticed a knocking sound coming from the engine when shifting gears so we replaced the upper and lower engine mounts to fix that problem.
Then there was the problem of the leaking exhaust again, possibly caused by lifting the engine when we replaced the rear main seal, and there was a sound coming from the rear right suspension which turned out to be caused by a faulty installation on our part.

- Project’s Background Story -
On February 21 ’09 our dad bought this ’96 Volvo 850 2.5L 20V estate. The Volvo has a big emotional value for us and seeing the car sitting still for so many years and watching nature taking over broke our hearts. After nine years, and sitting outside for 7 of those 9 years, we finally got our hands on the 850 and brought it back to its home where we will restore it to its former glory. Once we finish the restoration, we intend to make a road trip and keep in the family for many more years to come.

I watched this entire series over the span of a few days. You guys did great. I picked up a 97 S90, saving it from the salvage, but it held no family history. Its been a great project though. Just a heads up… the bracket from the firewall to the engine is upside down. The bolt should thread in from the bottom and the nut portion goes on top :) it’s looking good!

Good work!. If you haven’t already Change the heater core. Mine on a 97 just went. Overheat wet interior 😢

The smaller bushing on the lower torque mount WILL fail again. Soon if you drive aggressively at all. After going through 3 in 20k miles on my 2006 V70r i replaced with Powerflex Purple and the car drives/shifts/brakes WAY better.

Hello, nice video series! For information: if you have to change the top engine mount there is a 2 part PU rubber mount that can be changed without unscrewing half of the engine. Fast an good solution! Look at skandixxx Keep on trucking…

Goedenavond, bij het vervangen van het sierstuk uitlaat is waarschijnlijk de lambda sonde ontregeld. Waar vind ik die, hoe haal ik die los? Daar zie ik helaas geen filmpje van.... Alvast bedankt voor jullie reactie.

Hallo, De lambda sonde zit altijd voor de katalysator en bij autos na 2001 (dacht ik) ook nog na de katalysator. Hier heb je speciale doppen voor of gewoon een steeksleutel of bahco werkt ook vaak. Ligt een beetje aan de ruimte die je hebt. Succes!
