In my case it was the fuel pressure regulator (Just translated it from german, sorry if it is wrong). BUT the car started bad only when it was warm and also has a really rough idle.

@@realvolvofreak Yes it kinda fixed it. I just got a rough idle and sometimes, after i pushed the throttle slightly, it will go to under 500 rpm. Sometimes the engine does shut off. Today i tried to change the sensor, but i didn't get the old one loose to change it. But we will see.

Hi...did you compare the resistant test with the new one, if yes then what was the difference? So, my 95 940 had the same issue since last week, I've replaced the ignition module (ex used part but tested on my friend's 940 and run well), but still the same on mine still couldn't run, crank but not start. So i am currently looking at the cranks position sensor as the suspect. I've removed and checked visually, didn't find the broken wire though, not tested for the resistant yet. Thoughts? Edited: I don't have the spark btw, nothing from the ignition coil to the distributor

Yes I did. If you look in the video resistance for the new sensor was 160 ohms. I would say start there and test you rom sensor.

Right! Here i am back as i promised to give you guys an update. My brand new sensor "Meyle" made in Germany has arrived today, installed it aaaaand yaayy!!!!! it's running pretty good. So, yes my old cranks position sensor broken, it has no resistance when i measured it. The new one says it's 190 ohms instead of 160 ohms but i think that doesn't seem to be an issue. Hey man, replaced ignition coil, distributor, distributor cap, rotor, crankshaft sensor, mass airflow sensor, and the wire from the stributor cap to the ignition coils. Still not starting. Any ideas?

Do you have spark or not? If not then need to verify that ecu and coil gets power. If not then issues in wiring or then it could be that ecu (engine control unit) is bad. But that does not happen often.

Hi we have a Volvo 940. Been running great up untill today. It's cranking, but no start. My Dad has done some welding on small hole which involved taking centre console out and seats. There's no spark. He also has taken radio out. Could this affect the car not starting? Could he have dislodge wire when he removed the radio? Thank you

The radio will not affect spark. It could be that some fuse is blown there in center console. Check those. I think number one was responsible for the engine control module. Check if you have no fuel as well. If it is only no spark and there is a fuel pressure in the tail I would measure sensor next. Even if it is not sort of related to the jobs you did. Hope you can locate fault.

Hi Dad is going to do some more testing today. The reason we thought maybe taking the radio out did something because of the Radio Suppression relay. Will let you know how he gets on today.

Just to let you know we think we have found the problem. Dad tested the primary and secondary circuits in the coil. They read within the normal range. Then he wiggled the wires around the Crankshaft position sensor. He asked me to crank and it fired right up. Going to be ordering a new one. The weird thing is yesterday the rev counter was moving then today it wasn't. From research it's age that affects the insulation round the wires not use. Anyway we have narrowed down the problem. Whewww. Thank you for your help.

I have same problem i replaced coil, plug leads, sparkplugs, ignition module and it cranks and smells like fuel but no start, wires are in correct order and there is spark, so maybe crank position sensor for me too? It had really low resistance when i measured

What was a resistance on sensor? I would say no since you are saying that you got spark. However other chap here got similar issue and it was faulty throttle position sensor.

@@dillardz952 yes it was the injector resistor module, it can be bypassed by connecting all 5 wires to same

I have the same problem as you, the needle wont go up and down, I replaced to Crankshaft sensor but i does not start. Do you have any advice where to look? I replaced the spark plugs, cables, rotor, It have fuel to the injectors. I have a Volvo 945 turbo from 1997

@@oscareriksson2862 That is half good. :) At least you have spark. I would take out the injectors and try to crank the car while they are out to see if they are not sticky and opens or oposit maybe they are always open and flood the cylinders.

When i bought the car it ha green ”R” injectors and they have bridged the injector resistance to put bigger injectors on if you understand what i mean. I have now switched back to original injectors but it wont start. It sparks like 2 times when i crank the motor then it wont start. Maybe the injectors i bought was bad?

@@oscareriksson2862 hmmm. Interesting. Again. I would try to start with injectors out from the manifold. To confirm that they are working or not.

@@johnredford1461 I would say yes. Not knowing what engine is in your 740z But for sure look behind the engine. Between engine block and gearbox. You should see the crank sensor there if it is on your car.

Same problem here 92 240, cranks no start. Replaced crank position sensor, it started right up.

What readings you got? Put it on “horse shoe” mode. 😃🙈 ohms. You need to mesure the resistance for the sensor.

It has cranksensor as well. I would check the resistance on sensor itself to verify if it is good or not? Do you have the same starting issue?

@@machadoto8702 it is behind engine and sits between engine and gearbox bell housing on the top of it. I am showing that in video as well. It is a bit hard to see there. Hope you will manage. :)

hi. replaced my sensor on my 940 and starts again but.... still i have hot start problems. When hot -I can start only with pressing gas pedal.... HELP pelase...

That means you could have issues with fuel system or temperature sensor. Either not having enough fuel presssure. Need to check that. Or some of injectors are leaking when car is hot. Is it possoble for you to read codes that are stores on ECU?
