Volvo Blower Motor Squeak "Fix"

Listen.. There's a right way and a wrong way to fix things... I'm not saying you shouldn't do this, It's just not a solution.

Oh man I just tried it and it worked for me, I was about to set aside a whole weekend to replace the blower considering my local shop quoted me $1200 to have it replaced. Your a life saver thank you!!!

Thanks! I just did mine, and we'll see in the winter (when I get the squeak) how well it worked. Two suggestions: Removing the top cover and thus the wiper isn't really necessary--with the fasteners taken out, it flexes easily enough for access without stressing it unduly. Also, to get the lube at the right place, I got myself the ShopStraw FS250 FlexStraw from Amazon, a very long spray can straw, and I taped it to a stick with the end bent to be able to spray toward the bearing area through the blower. With these two, it becomes a five-minute job, so if it works, repeating from time to time won't be a problem. I used Hornady One Shot Cleaner and Lube since it's supposed to be a dry lubricant that doesn't leave a wet film that gunks up with dust.

Excellent. Mine is squeaking very occasionally and so I will hit it early before the unit fails completely and has to be removed which a whole lot of pain I can do without in my life. 👍👏🙏

I went through the struggle of replacing the blower fan. It's a permanent fix, but If I knew about this I'd do this even if it was twice a year. It was a painful process

This is where my head is at. I really don't want to replace the blower motor,, I'm ok doing this once a year.

Thank you very much! I did it too on my S80. I was actually sceptical but it works! How can it be so simple? I have now driven about 700 kilometers with the car and the motor is still silent. I will share your video on our Dutch Volvo forum.

Glad this worked for you! It's about 5 years since the first time I've sprayed it and unfortunately it comes back fairly quick now. It looks like I'll be doing the motor soon 😭

Do you think PTEF oil would work just as well for that purpose? My S60 occasionally makes annoying noise at some fan speeds. .

Did it sound like a cricket? I've noticed a cricket sound (loud) that comes and goes, and I'm certain it isn't a cricket. My blend door doesn't seem to work the way it should -- it moves a little here and there but I've never seen it fully open or fully closed in the couple of times I've had the cowl lifted up to check sunroof drains.

You sprayed on the rusty end of the shaft or through the holes/slots to reach the hidden part of the shaft? Thanks!

Just sort of a spray and pray sort of deal. I soaked everything with it.

I have that squeak too but i was going to try same by removing cluster and sparying the lube that way.

I don't think you'll be able to see the bearings from that direction. Also, that seems like a much more involved disassembly than removing cowl. Comment back if you're successful though

Hi, I have this cricket noise from the right fan, is this trick can work for the right side fan to? Can I get the access to the fan in your way?

I am pretty sure there only is one fan. And as you may see in the video it is placed a bit to the right from centre. I am planning on doing this soon, would be great to get some feedback on how it goes for you. Good luck!

Does the silicone spray odor flow out of the vents?

Oh yeah. It'll fade after an hour or so. I usually let it run for 10 min or so.

Think I will just take mine to the shop and have it replaced if you're saying it only last a year. Good bandaid fix though except I don't think it is. That's too much stuff to pull for a bandaid fix.

You're kidding... it's simple. Six clips and a nut on each wiper. This should be standard maintenance on all P3 Volvos ~

FYI, this takes like, 10 minutes of real time to do. I’m willing to put in 10 minutes a year to save on a $1200+ repair!

Did this also make a noise when the blower was turned off? Because I have a very annoying sound from the dash and i dont know what it is. When my blowers are off (or on) and I drive in a lower gear it makes more noise because of the car vibration. When i am not driving, no annoying sound at all.

Can be the refrigerant moving through the valves but also make sure that the aux input is not receiving interference. I shut off the infotainment and the noise disappeared!

@@robinwells8879 my problem is solved and it was totally something else, for anyone who can have the same annoying issue: it was the hook under the hood/bonet on the window side, the hook that has to hold the hood/bonet when you crash and the airbag popups, there is a plastic on the hook, mine was broken and slided to the other side, the hook touched the chassis of the car by every vibration of the engine. After correcting the plastic on the hook I have never heard that noise again.

I had the squeaking sound from the dash on my S60 2011. Solved it by tightening the four screws around the main LCD TFT screen. You will need to remove the trim around it. K.
