My all time favourite truck! I was privaliged enough to do a good few trips in a 1993 500hp one on a farm in western Australia I worked on. Occasionally I pulled 2, 36ft tipping trailers grossing the best part of 90t but I preferred one trailer. Everytime I hear the sultans of swing by dire straits it reminds me of hammering along the Hyden - Lake Grace rd in western Australia in that big F16 and that deep burble and turbo whistle.

What a beautiful machine, and the noise... All I ever dreamed of as a kid was driving an F16 on the trade routes out east. I had models, dinky trucks and anything else I could get hold of that said F16 on it. An absolute sweetheart of a truck and an awesome video, thanks Mat!

DAMN you'r a lucky man.... I have been dreaming about to get this truck too in all my adult years (43 yers old). I love the design. The best design that Volvo Trucks ever had made. And the F16 engine is so so so so sweet sound in my eyers. I was in Sweden i 1992 in the F12, sounds also good with the yelling clutch, when you pussed it down. Take good care of this beautiful lady in her best age. She deserve it.

Now you're talking ! This was THE truck back in the day along with the Scania 143 450 v8 . I was in an F12 400 , and was always jealous of drivers in the mighty F16 at various pack houses we used to reload at for the trip home . All you needed was a Chereau with 20 tons of hanging in the back to make the need for a radio obsolete !! Great sound even solo and great work Mat.

Awesome Wagon, but too quiet, dump the stove pipe ,fit a short straight stub at wheel height and set off car alarms. Would not believe that Volvo, makers of the 240 Estate UK,s favourite bog roll dog hauler and Jilly Cooper,s dragster can come with that snorting beast. If my lottery numbers came up, would look out a decent 6x4 F16 in right hand drive, fit a beefy steel front bumper and a Jacobs engine compression brake,a heavily modified Allison World Series Autobox with direct manual control of all six gears plus a three speed plus overdrive auxiliary box ,a short geared Rockwell SQRD single reduction double drive spiral bevel bogie . Cannot see myself driving from the passenger seat,. Lucky pup a seriously nice motor!!.

the F range wins hands down out of the 3 models from that era. the FL was a poor mans truck, and mainly felt like a shunter for local work, the FH was good to look at, but everywhere I looked people had cheaped out and gone with the FH12, plus never been in one or driven one. but the F range would have to be my fav. for the lung full of smoke, and sound in the morning to wake you up. so yes definately a big kid in me says make that engine hum!! lol

They upgraded the F16 in the early 90's to 500bhp something to do with some electrical control unit on the fuel pump. Not sure if they still offered them in 470bhp form as well but they went to 500bhp as the flagship model. You will have to find out if yours is the 500bhp model? Brilliant channel though 👍👍👍

Done some more In depth research, and the F16 only came in one form so yours is the later model so it will be the 500bhp model 👍. It had 3 changes of hp on the engine, 470bhp, 485bhp then the final one like yours being 500bhp. 👍
