The best video I’ve seen thus far showing IPS drive and joystick work

I‘ve always wondered if you still need different rotation gearboxes when using double counter rotating props. Especially on a 3 engine setup

Dynamic positioning is awesome for a pleasure boat. Technology that used to be for the commercial marine industry.

Is it possible to use 1× Volvo Penta IPS 600 on a sailboat?

Thank you for your question. What kind of sail boat (type, length, etc)

@@grigoristzalavras5930 I'm torn between Jeanneau 64 and Hanse 675.
@grigoristzalavras59304 жыл бұрын
H K well these yachts are equipped with ~150hp engine. IPS600 packs 440hp and lots of weight and space. Also the design of the hull and the available interior space make it almost impossible for the yachts to be powered with ips600 or any ips. I could propose solar electric catamaran if sails aren’t mandatory for you.

@@grigoristzalavras5930 Thank you for your answer. Hmm. Are there any Volvo Penta IPS models with less powerful engines?

Awesome Video and Work Mr Tzalavras! Do you have one with boat underway? Or is it too bubbly?

Does anyone know why exhaust gases change the wayout when the IPS rotate?
@Dynamicboats7 жыл бұрын
Hi David, the exhaust is in a fixed location in the upper base, while the hole in the pod is rotating as the pod rotates. When the pod is not in 0 degree then exhausted gases aren't pushed through the pod. Thank you!
@killadavidxxx6 жыл бұрын
yes the gas is coming from the exhaust above when going sideways because otherwise it would move the boat slowly forward
@visionist75 жыл бұрын
Does the pod exhaust give any nominal thrust?
@Dynamicboats5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. Actually negligible.

Why they generate a lot of bubbles when they stop propel?
@Dynamicboats5 жыл бұрын
Its actually exhaust gases plus boiled water due to cavitation from prop tips
@normand58475 жыл бұрын
The engine exhaust is routed through the drive unit for quiet operation and eliminates any fume odors.

Two throttles three engines??
@Dynamicboats7 жыл бұрын
Dear David thank you for your comment. Actually yes two throttles control three engines. The EVC is responsible for controlling the engines speed. You can actually see what happens when in various throttle positions.

Give me a pair of "morse" throttle controllers. If they are good enough for Faireys they are good enough for me! ;-)

When you hit bottom it would be like throwing rocks in a blender, good job new engineer grad trying to invent a better mousetrap.

It’s no different to grounding with a rear facing pod or shaft. No matter what system your using some basic seamanship will save the day.
@rodeye25 жыл бұрын
@@Smokeyr67 That's not true, a rear facing prop going a ground is dragging through it, a forward facing prop is hitting head on.
@Smokeyr675 жыл бұрын
Same result, props bent and broken at best, pod torn off, shaft torn out at worst. At least the IPS drive won’t take on water, but a pulled shaft? Better man the pumps

You must be the inventor, sorry to ruffle your feathers.

rodeye2 no, I didn’t invent it, don’t own one, don’t have any financial interest in it, but I dislike it when people lacking in subject matter knowledge post a negative and incorrect opinion.
