Be careful with the phillips regulator screws, sometimes these are stuck and rusted and can round quite easily. I like to make sure the screw driver tip is the right size so it gets really tight on the screw, then I push the screw driver against the screw and try turning it slowly, to break it loose. And obviously, carefully not to drop these small screws. If you don't bring the alternator out from the engine bay, be sure to loosen up all 13mm bolts on the regulator (3 of them, one under the black cap) before removing the alternator from its bracket - these bolts are tight and hard to break loose while keeping the alternator from moving. Unfortunately, on turbo engines one 13mm bolt is not accessible because of the intake. Fcpeuro.com has the regulators for you (Bosch), click their Fitment tabs to check to make sure you get the right regulator for your car year, regulators have been changed in the middle of 2004 and you MUST get the correct one for your car otherwise it will not charge the battery properly and will soon damage the battery and also the regulator (if you see it charging only at 13.5v when starting a cold engine that's not a good thing). Alternator body should be universal, it's the regulator that must be the right one. Some aftermarket alternators have security screws for the regulators E-Socket Sockets 1/4 Inch(6.3mm) Torx Star Socket E4,E5,E6,E7,E8

Hello! Thanks. About to jump into this job. I have a turbo. It it maybe easier to just remove the hydraulic pump since I’ve done it before? Thanks!!

Can't answer for the turbo... on the non turbo, even with the steering pump out, the bracket for the pump was in the way..

@@Peppermint1 yep! you’re abseloutely right. The bracket for the hydraulic’s pump outer mounting holes stick too much out.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone to do this but you could maybe use an angle grinder and cut out the mounting bracket for the outer pump’s mounting hole - remove the generator and run the pump on only two bolts.
