@@HaasGrotesk There are multitude of reasons that Volvo drivers die less. Of course the safety of the car is a factor, but you have to keep in mind that people who buy Volvos drive slower and more carefully. If someone makes a car choice based on safety you can bet your ass they are willing to drive safely. That said, it's very possible you die in a Volvo going 66kph, as with any car. 66kph is a very high speed for a collision considering that most people are going to break down to about 40kph before impact, that's why crash tests are made at that speed.

very safe cars, with the best safety avoidance systems. Saw a video of an xc90 owner said it saved him when he went to make a lane change a moped was zipping around him from a different lane behind, it nudged him back over just as soon as the moped entered the blind spot. Volvo cars also have some intersection collision avoidance features and will prevent an ill-advised left turn from occurring. But I do not like the idea of owning the (twin) turbo out of warranty. Perhaps the 2020’s have it all ironed out

At 1:05 - 1:10 they show how to implement perfect small offset protection. There is a triangle shape plate with a reinforcement profile behind the front wheel, it 'gently' pushes the car away from the barrier. Much better than the full stop some other cars come to. At 2:31 you can see the steering column is retracting, similar to Audi procon ten system from before airbags were introduced. This is not rocket science. It's just dedication to go the extra mile for safety.

I am glad to have a volvo as my first car. I was thinking of something more sporty but we had this s80 as the family beater and I took it as my own and love it. Already saved my neck from whiplash when I was rear ended. And I already have back problems from a previous accident form being rear ended when I was a child but in my Volvo the WHIPs prevented me from getting hurt more. I was so impressed considering it shoved my car forward a couple of feet (with the brakes on) when I was hit at the stop light. I love this car and will keep it as long as it survives. Definitely will be getting more of these cars over the years. Such amazing engineering goes into them. My mom was saved by an older 240 wagon when she got blindsided by a work truck on a blind curve (the truck was backing out of a driveway) and hit it at some high speed. All the doctors said because of the Volvo she was able to get away with only bruising and a dislocated hip that otherwise could have been a shattered pelvic bone and some serious damage.

1:08 why does the front horizontal bar extend further on the drivers side than the passengers side?
@benbieger5715
@benbieger5715 4 жыл бұрын
I think because to Save weight. The Front bar extension is mainly to protect the passenger compartment in case of an small overlap crash as shown in the Test. In Countries witch have right hand traffic you crash only with the driver side into other cars. The same applies to left-hand traffic. only that the extension is on the other side in this case. (It's just a guess)

a titanium strut brace would be better over useless alloy, the first crash looks abit dodgy, while titanium would probably save a few inches off the wheel moving backwards into the driver compartment
@Honeypot-x9s
@Honeypot-x9s 4 жыл бұрын
dont want the wheels to be held in place with such a huge impact because it still fail at the weakest point even if they used titanium to brace it the bolts may sheer or the suspntion system itself may fold or rim may shatter so many possibilities better to get that wheel out of the way of the passenger compartment so dont have wheel folding the foot/pedal area. volvo designs it so the wheel brakes way and flies off to the side there a thick beam of extremely high strength steel volvo uses behind the wheel and around passenger compartment to encourage the wheel to break off to the side and eject out of the car's path.. and they determined a little bit of door damage is alot better than the wheel folding the foot area of passenger compartment. the reason alloy is picked is because volvo custom engineers the alloy so strong enough to withstand lifetime of abusive driving ( they do good job on, i have 300,000 miles on my volvo wagon which is a 2011 XC70 and i beat the ever living fuck out if it every drive) but also make that strong alloy fail when it needs to so it will send the wheel flying out to the side..
