I drive Volvo’s Australian the cab overs like Fh and fm but I would love to have VNX 740 with that 700 hp engine would be an absolute comfortable monster pulling heavy haul and road trains, especially with that added ground clearance and bonneted design.

A Volvo truck is a drivers truck. Comfortable, powerful, quiet, reliable and efficient. It's just a shame so many companies choose the cheaper less reliable trucks to "cut costs" then sell the rigs off just before the warranty runs out.

I'm a driver. If your a trucking company recruiting drivers and you have a fleet of Volvo trucks, you would be my first pick over any equal offer with a lesser truck.

Nice to see Volvo trucks built for North America (i.e., engine in front of driver rather than cab over engine). Not sure why North American trucks have that different configuration but there must be a reason. Maybe because moose are bigger than reindeer so if you drive in the north country you want a little extra sheet metal between you and the moose.
@konradmroczek24968 жыл бұрын
American rules allow longer total length so making the truck as short as possible isn't as important, and cab over engine configurations (the short European style) are harder to service. Also longer wheelbases are better for carrying heavier loads. A cab over engine configuration also allows a tighter turning radius which is important in the typically smaller European streets but not so much in the US. Ps. I drive a bus in London :D

Thank you for the explanation of European configuration versus North American configuration for Volvo trucks. I do remember trucks in the past with the 'cab over' feature but now that you point out the difference I can't remember seeing any manufacturer using that configuration recently. I thought the cab over configuration would be easier to service because you just tilted the whole cab away from the motor and transmission. And the longer wheel base makes sense for load distribution. Found a nice explanation on this trucking website: www.smart-trucking.com/cabover-trucks.html Of course over the years some of the disadvantages (i.e., access to the sleeper) have changed with modern designs but as the article says new length laws gave North American truckers an extra 9 feet to work with and the need for a shortened cab disappeared almost overnight for long-haul truckers. P.S. You drive a bus in London traffic! You are doing God's work.

The question has been answered above, but I just wanted to note that we have plenty of moose in Sweden too (the home of Volvo) where cab overs are standard.
