@@swedish_brick_enjoyer a v70r or s60r used no major problems just you're basics IE wheel bearings maybe missed service or two basic cosmetic damage down to wear and age in USD $5000 Or £4000/4500 pounds

My Dad had a crash in his V70 first gen too. He crashed in the back corner of an ambulance (Mercedes) with 50 km/h and only the paramedics got injured (not seriously). The funny thing was that the whole engine block was still complete but sadly the cost of repair where higher than a used 850R which he has now

My dad put his ‘98 S70 T5 in the ditch 6 years ago. In his way down he chopped of a telephone poll 4 feet of the ground. That same poll then landed in the windshield when he landed in the ditch. He walked away from it. So glad he had that car otherwise I probably wouldn’t have my dad. My first car is gonna be a ‘98 V70 GLT and I have been fixing it up so in 2 years I can drive it knowing I’ll be safe

Very good. A new young family can buy a 1000$ Volvo that will serve the next 5 years probably without any extra repair costs and that is as save as a modern used car for 10000$-20000$. Dads, keep this in mind :)

Eagle's Nest All your electronics are Chinese-made. Does that make them brittle ? No, because R&D is made with high standards. That works for Apple and Volvo. They still engineer/design/build parts/assemble them all over Sweden and Europe, with Chinese money (the Chinese PRIVATE company uses Volvo as an R&D money pit for their domestic cars). Volvo has never been so good, and they still stand for what they stood for in the 70/80/90’s. Quality, « cheapness » (compared to the Germans), Versatility and sturdiness.

This is 80% overlap. If it were 40% overlap then the old V70 would have deformed more..... But they knew how to crash it so that neither the old one deformed too badly.

It's slightly offset and it is a reconstruction of an accident that happened for real, to see how accurate crash testing was to real accidents.

They are a private company doing stuff on their own lot. It's not an official crash test, it's a PR stunt. The older car would have been weaker in an offset crash and made the Volvo brand look bad (even though a first gen v70 is the golden standard among cars from the 90's).

Does this mean then that 5th Gears test was biast? They collided a V70 into a Renault Modus and in the test the Modus made rubbish of the Volvo

No, they crashed a 940 into a Modus. 940 was never constructed for off set crash.

@@meekdook4236 960/S/V90 is the same car as 740/940 except for some cosmetic changes and another engine. Actually they did reenforce the foot well area to stop intrusion but It didn't change the fact that the car wasn't designed for off set crashes

@@chien-shengtsai8626 correct. P3 V70 was under Ford ownership. Geely actually has been very good for Volvo. The SPA chassis cars and CMA chassis cars are some of the most beautiful and safe cars on the road.

Bro. First your grammar needs attention. And YES. The 2009 V70 is way much safer than the 1997 version. (Even the 2001 v70 is safer and stiffer than the 97 v70.)
