Here I Replace the the alternator in a 2001 V70 turbo petrol Auto. After a'Low battery voltage' message during driving, and a subsequent confirmation of no alterntor output.
It's always worth giving the the alternator a little knock with some wood or a hammer handle to see if you can get a few more miles out of it, but it will ultimately need replacement or overhaul.
Good luck with yours.

Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video. Just put a new alternator in my wife's 2001 Volvo V70 XC and your video guided me through the task flawlessly. Saved us about $300! Thanks again.

Great! Today I spent seven hours trying to do this. I made it to 9.30 in the video, then the alternator is still stuck to the block. I can move it slightly but don't take it away.

Thanks a ton for this…mine quit yesterday (2001 V70 Turbo Wagon, 162k miles) and this made the job much more straightforward. If you ever find yourself in Boston, pints are on me!

This procedure works on the 2001 s60's as well, I just replaced mine at 146k. Thanks a lot for taking the time to make this video, I got the old one out and the new one in with ease, and in just under an hour and a half.

i just want to say thank you so much for this video. here i was thinking it was going to be such an awful job, but this tutorial made it a snap. my car is a bit different from your model, but the same hardware is there. my biggest issue was getting the unit out, but turns out i didnt even need to remove the radiator hose at all. thank you again, judson irish

Thanks for the vid. I have just completed this on a V70 D5. I was able to leave the coolant hose connected and not remove the PAS pump. Removing the PAS high pressure hose (only a small dribble of fluid) and bracket gave enough room to slide the alternator out. Took just over an hour.

It was a little struggle because it all is a tight work space, I couldn't imagine how you managed holding a camera. great video.

Great video. You just saved me taking my tensioner to the tool shop to find out which T size it is. Thanks

Just wanted to thank you for your video. The only difference on mine was the the tensioner did not have place for a t-55 fitting so I placed a 12mm closed end wrench of the tensioner nut and pulled it clockwise to loosen the belt. I also drained a lot of the coolant to make it cleaner.

Good video, thanks. Just had to do mine. Same car 2001 rhd V70 2.4 petrol non turbo. My alternator came out without being turned around with comfortable clearance, I only disconnected the top radiator hose at the radiator end. The only hassle being having to use a short 14mm ring spanner on the tensioner bolt because I did not have a socket and ratchet that I could get on to that bolt because of the lack of room. If I ever have to do this again I'll make sure I've got something that gives better leverage on that tensioner bolt.

The only other thing I would add is to replace the tensioner and belt just because with everything apart it is easy to do now instead of when they fail. Also I found it was easier to put hose clamp back on hose before putting power steering pump in place(more room). Thanks again for your detailed proper video.
