On the road again!! Swapped mine with the help of wife roadside by the beach!! Don’t worry about the purple ring, it pulled just fine without it for 20 minutes:). Oil was everywhere and I found it on top of filter housing. So I glued it to the tube with high temp RTV silicone. I didn’t drain the coolant, I just plug the hose with my rubber glove when I unhooked it from the EGR. I stripped out one of the nuts for the turbo flange so we took the turbo off with the manifold. Then it was easy to remove the hard to reach bolts. Used a strap connected to steering Column over engine to hang exhaust tube, and another to support manifold when installing. Also!!! It’s really easy to work with oil return pipe if you disconnect oil supply line from engine. Good luck!!! You can do it!!! Save the manuals and don’t drive like my brother.

For the most part the best advice I can give you is remove that fender liner plastic/plastic frame and turn the wheel to the right before starting. The majority of the bolts are not horribly tight. Take your time with it man. If I can do it, you can too!! Pickup new gaskets an washers from the dealer. They are grade 8 or better if you want to try to match them st home Depot you can. Any questions post a reply or try to upload a video to your channel an I'll reply. It took me about 4-6 hours doing it alone minus the trips for parts an beer

@@charleslittle1409 recommendation, the egrs. Make sure they are clean and both in the same position after putting back on. Egrs are notorious for these engines to fail. O'Rileys auto parts sells them with 1 year warranty for about $500 and also pullys an belts/tensioners. All 1 year warranty. Gates racing. The egrs get gummed up with black soot causing them to not fully close- the engine will not make full power if one is half way open. They open in a twisting method: the pistons or circle looking valves turn in an out such as lefty loosely righty tightly. Should be able to air chuck them out. Lil bit of wd40 in them.

Great video..just did the exact turbo .. return line is leaking at the block... oil supply line won't come out,..it's all in the way....How often is the purple seal reused....or is the drain line just not far enough in the block causing the leak.... thank you for your help 🙏

Anytime I remove the oil return line I usually replace that purple o ring. It is silicone I believe. If you don't want to pull the turbo off you MIGHT be able to put the flex drain tube from AutoZone or an auto parts store that fits the Dodge Cummins trucks. It's like $60-90... Possibility it is leaking due to it not being pushed in all the way. I put the purple ring on the pipe first, made sure it was 100% dry on the pipe and inside the purple ring so it sat on there snug...then used some oil and stuck it around the block where it slides into. I can not see the purple o ring at all now it is pushed in. It took me several hours...I failed at trying to put just the pipe on alone...it has.to be mounted to turbo. It sucked. I recommend using a soapy spray bottle and spraying all fittings and connections after you install it back together to make sure you do not have leaks. Try to reuse your clamps for EGR. They are like $30 each. Possibly replace the gaskets inside EGR tubes and EGR exhaust gaskets./turbo flange gaskets. Those like to leak easily. I use white grease to hold gaskets in place while putting it back together.

Hey David, I am not 100% sure because the 2003 did not have EGRS and I believe the manifold is different. Give these guys a call and see what they say? It's a Vanguard MACK dealership/Volvo In Chokia IL. I do all my business with them. They can cross reference it with last 6 of vin an you might get lucky an find one on eBay. 314 256 8099

Need to replace egr's how difficult does it get? Especially around alternator to disconnect wires?

Hey, As long as the trucks not hot, it is not too bad. O'Rileys auto parts sells them for $550 each, lifetime warranty. Remove air box, turbo side. Driver side, carefully remove plastic cap cover that's along side the engine. Under the cap cover, there is another flat cover. Take your time. Don't pinch any wires. EGR plugs are the front two facing the front of truck. Bank 1, bank2. Each one needs to go back in exactly the same order. Probably a 1.5-2hr job. Get new EGR kit gaskets also. While applying the clamps for egrs, snug them, then tap with a hammer in one side an it will remove all play from the clamp then fully tighten

Heineken will work, possibly will be a little more expensive, and lead to headaches if not done right. I recommend letting them chill over night prior to trying.

How'd you get the two rear bolts off of the turbo?

I used hand tools and the little socket adapter that allows you to get a better angle I’m not sure the exact name of the tool but it plugs and asked her the socket and it allows you to kind of rotate the angle a little bit they were not on there very tight and I used PB blaster

@@tfr6 I made the mistake of trying to put the air gun on it an damn near broke my fingers off first time. Honestly the bolts were not tight an it took minimum effort with that swivel an a socket on a 3/8th ratchet. I'd recommend buying all new nuts an bolts from dealer when putting back together. They are a one time use thing an the gaskets are one time use.

😂😂 it sucked I used a car jack with a 2x4 under the truck there to hold it up with the EPG ...epg an turbo was like 85lbs it killed
