The Volvo XC40 is the Swedish manufacturer’s smallest and most affordable SUV, bridging the gap between its larger models and family hatchbacks and estates. A youthful design and minimalist interior are sure to appeal to a new swathe of customers and puts the XC40 in contention with top-selling models from brands like Audi, BMW, Lexus and Jaguar. This all black First Edition model looks amazing. Lovely interior, all spec out and everything too! In terms of style and design, this XC40 is one the of the best in its class. Volvo has definitely come a long way.

The difference between this color and the ones displayed at launch is night and day. This car is handsome in all black - not so much in baby blue with a white roof.

Each to their own but I prefer a dash of colour to liven or cheer things up. I associate black with funeral cars and can be a depressing colour. Only my own feelings and not fact of course.

This is definitely on my short list for when I replace my full spec Skoda Yeti. I would love a new Yeti but the brain dead at Skoda decided to bin it in favour of a very dull design Karoq. Maybe I'll just get a lower mileage yeti.

Am I the only one who notices the rather apparent use of filters? Ginny looks a bit ill, yellowish, dare I say grim/greyed out? Noticed it in some of the other recent vids, I would tone it down a bunch. Bring some colour instead of taking it out!

At 442 CM it's hardly compact, and is the same length as X1 for example. Just because there are HUGE cars like XC90 around, doesn't make this compact. Compact is Suzuki Jimny, for example.

The XC 90 isn't huge, SUVs like the escalade and navigator are huge, landcruisers and RRs are big and the X1 and XC 40 are compacts. The XC 90 is mid size

The Enlightened One no Full size is a massive range Basically any car with 7 adults seats is apparently full sized Mid size is Discovery Sport to Volvo XC60 (930L of boot to 445) Then there is the large Crossovers from the Nissan Quasqai to the Nissan Juke Ugh I hate that car Small SUVS Like this Merc GLA and VW T-Roc Then there is Compact Crossovers (Audi Q2 Mini Countryman Ect)

The way the body work cuts across the rear passenger window restricting the light entering the vehicle and also the view out for those unlucky enough to be sat in the back is a design disaster. Whoever approved that wants sacking. I hate the rear light clusters on ANY Volvo too.

I don't get why motoring journalists keep saying about middle seats being suitable for children. If they are under 12, chances are they will be in a child seat. Adults in the outer back seats won't have much fun with a child seat wedged between them!

Michael Burgess well I'm not a child so don't need a car seat. Law says 12 years old or 135cm tall, whatever comes first, need a child/booster seat, though it's recommended up to 150cm tall. Have you ever been in the back row of a car with a child seat in the middle? Being sat on the outer seats isn't fun!
