Many are confused now when Volvo is owned by a Chinese company, some think that Volvos are built in china and stuff. But really, this Chinese company helps Volvo make fully Swedish cars, with no Ford parts. The other cars Volvo build now have Ford platforms, that's about to change, soon they will replace the V70/S80 with their Scalable Product Platform they recently designed.

I really like the XC90 as I could try it out already. Funny thing is, how people still complain about certain features and compare it to BMW, Mercedes etc. saying 'German' brands are still superior. I just don't understand it, because it simply is not true. I mean, I am German myself, but how can one be this stubborn? For example I've seen a test where the safety systems of certain brands were tested. Despite being compared to the newest cars from BMW, Mercedes, VW and Renault, the new Volvo XC90 was the only(!) car that managed to warn of an obstacle in front AND break in time to avoid a collision. The other cars as well saw the obstacle but could not avoid a collision. Grow out of your brand fetishism people... AND STOP FUCKING CRYING ABOUT THE ENGINES!

I don't get why manufacturers insist on making big ass SUV's with tiny 2.0 litre 4 cylinder engines. They just can't cope with the bulk of the car. Put a 3.0 V6 diesel in it, this would make it a much better car and it would also not effect the fuel economy, because a bigger engine would be under much less stress.

Sirion 4 cylindres are usually very bad choices in 3 row suvs, like the toyota highlander, if you get the 4 cylinder its very hard to live with around highways and hills. Because of this, most people expect a v6 at the least in a suv. The commenter above does not seem to realize that this suvs 4 cylinder is extremely high output and capable of over 400 hp from the factory before an aftermarket tune, this suv will have no issue keeping up with traffic.

Are the front wheels powered by the 2 liter upfront and the rear wheels powered by the 80hp electric motor in the rear? What happens when the electric motor runs out of charge? My understanding is that there is no mechanical linkage between the front and rear. So i am not clear on what happens when the electric motor runs out of charge

I think the down side for me is the engine choice. No 3 L diesel or gas engines for such a big car. The new Q7 has 3L and 275 bhp, 6.3 sec/100 kmh or 60 miles and it cost around the same, sure no 7 sits. Owned the Audi and drove the volvo, (old models), the difference was that the german had superior performance both on road and offroad. Thats just my opinion ... leaving that aside, the interior and exteropr looks great, better at the front and bk than the Audi, MB or BMW.
