@@khristionlouvatin6874In a distribution deal the company does a lot less of the marketing/advertising work and loans the artist a lot less money, but the artist still owns their masters. And after you recoup the loan you usually get to split music royalties 50/50. Everything else - touring, merch, etc - you keep most or all the profit. In a record deal the company owns your masters. They give (lend) you much bigger budgets, usually give (lend) an advance, and do most of the work, but you take home way less revenue if any. You gotta recoup all the money they spent on you (most artists dont), they own your masters unless you buy em back, AND if they can finesse you into a 360 deal they take home part of everything else you do. Touring, merch, social media money, they’ll get a big piece of all that. Distribution deals are best for most artists, you just gotta be willing to put in the work. Record deals are mostly only good for artists who already have a solid fan base and are business savvy enough to not get finessed by the label in the contract.

@@ericgreen6704 it depends on your financial status, rapping gets expensive if you’re involving yourself and spending your own money on marketing. Some people can use a normal deal and still buy themselves out because they’re smart but a distribution deal can work if you got enough money to last and have good connections how some trappers do with studios so they can get cheaper studio time, like I only know a couple of people in Tampa that get 20/30$hr sessions like rod wave or Antonio brown
