There are several ways that a pilot can check the accuracy of the VORs in the airplane. I roll through four of them -- and a bonus method, using a repair facility -- in this 5-minute video. 30-day VOR checks are mandatory for Instrument pilots that will be using a VOR for primary navigation, but all pilots should be familiar with how to check accuracy, especially if you ever plan on becoming Instrument-rated.

I offer accelerated, all-day / every-day intensive Private Pilot and Instrument-rating training in beautiful San Diego, CA (or at your local airport, for an additional fee). See the Training page on my website!

Thank you thank you thank you. This really simplifies. +-4 degrees for ground checks +-6 degrees for airborne checks, except for VOR1/VOR2 check. I've not heard it explained this way and had a tough time getting it to stick when studying for my IFR written. Awesome!

do you know about NDB ? i'm asking because in brazil we've been using that , and this is too outdate
@GarryWing
@GarryWing 8 жыл бұрын
+cpt kirk I know they're still used in Alaska & other parts of the world, but there are no remaining NDBs in Southern California (but you can still use your ADF to listen to the ball-game). Going away next: VOR's, then RADAR, then Transponders. It's a GPS / ADS-B world, and I couldn't be more excited!

+Garry Wing Hi, I read that ADS-B is required in all aircraft by 2020, is that true?
@GarryWing
@GarryWing 8 жыл бұрын
+UAV Flyer Yes, _as of_ *1/1/20* (think of it more as late 2019...); anywhere a Mode C transponder's req'd today will require ADS-B Out (In is optional).
