Solid explanation and nice scenery, too! Always fun to see pilot stuff in non-pilot YT channels. If you ever wondered how your VOR radios know where you are, because radials broadcasted are useless without that information, it's actually pretty cool. It works like the old submarine-style radar sweep you'd see in movies where it sweeps a signal at the VOR's given frequency for the full 360 degrees and times it with a sort of 'ping'. How long it takes to make the sweep is measured and how long until it gets received by your radios is a fraction of that time (ie. a fraction of the circle = a radial). The ping that broadcasts in all directions from the station between sweeps is also measured in time which equals distance from your plane to the station, or DME. With DME, you can triangulate your position with just one VOR bc you know which radial you're on and how far along that radial from the station, too!

VOR = VHF Omnidirectional Range. It provides bearing information only. VOR/DME = VHF Omnidirectional Range Distance Measuring Equipment which provides both bearing and distance to the VOR station/unit.
