Definitely the 8x42s for my taste. Much lighter, less bulk and easier to hold steady.

8x32’s are best. Because their field of view is much wider, and of course their much more compact. Light gathering seems just as good as 8x42’s, except at twilight, their is a slight 10% advantage to the 8x42’s. So I’d go either 8x32’s or 10x42’s. Bypass the middle man.

Yeah I have been very happy with my 8x32s. With my swarvos I have the 7x30 and the 10x42 and had the 8x42. sold the 8x42s as I never used them. the 7x30s were lighter more compact, better field of view and great light gathering. Point being I 100% agree with you.

Thanks for that review and the comparison of those two different sizes. I got myself some 8x32s and I am really happy with the size and image quality. Before I had the Steiner Skyhawk 8x42 for testing, which is by far heavier. Personally I don't see a big difference in image quality at normal daylight, but this Vortex is so handy, lightweight and prefect for everyday carry.

The 8x42 will work better in low light and show more of the whole stage without having to move the binos. Called a field of view.

I have the Vortex Crossfire HD 10x50. Now, I'm thinking about getting the Vortex Diamondback HD 8x42. I like that the eyecups of the Diamondback HD 8x42 click in place. I don't have them for the Crossfire HD 10x50s. Not a big problem though. They stay in place even though they don't click in place.

Love your channel...I’m curious if you think the Vortex are better than Leupold (in the same class). I’m torn between the Leupold BX-2 Alpines and the Diamondback HDs both in 8x42

I don't have any experience with the Leopold bx-2. But I do have experience with both the original vortex diamondbacks and the new HD models. I love, love, love the new diamondback hds hds! So much so that I bought the 8x32 hds with the intention of reviewing and sending back, but decided to keep them i loved them so much. Also just published that review of the hds about 2 weeks ago on this channel if you want to check it out. Again sorry can't offer anything on the bx-2s.

Good question. I don't do any bird watching so I'm no expert on that. But tough call in my opinion. The 8s will be easier to hold and carry but thr 10s will get you in closer

I just got the 8x32s a few days ago. They are small and I like them but they might be a little to light. I notice more shake with these then when comparing them to my heavy bushnell legacy wp 10x50. I just ordered the 8x42 to try and compare. I still might keep the 8x32s but we will see after I compare them to the 8x42s.

Everyone's shake factor will be different. And your right they might be too light for certain people. The 8x42s will be quite a bit bigger and weigh more and might help you.

​@@SamkoTradBowafter testing both the 8x32 and 8x42 for over a week I'm going to keep the 8x42. I did love the size and how the 8x32 fit in my hands. A few things pushed me to the 42s. They seemed to have a flat focus that was sharp all the way to the edges. The 32s were more finicky with the focus and not as sharp at the edges (could be just an issue with the ones I got). Another big difference was how much brighter the 42s seemed in all situations. The third big difference is the eye relief. The 32s are basically useless with my glasses. The 42s I could still see almost the full field of view. I will probably revisit 8x32s down the road someday, ones with a little more eye relief like the ZEISS Terra ED 8x32

I got Vortex crossfire last after Christmas sale. My goodness how much better these were than my old Bushnell bino's!! While my crossfires are not by any means top of the line for my old eyes they are better than my eyes are able any more. I can only imagine what your Swarovski's are like. But again budget and eye problems aside mine are great for NC. If I was going west I would really consider having to upgrade though. But it would probably be Vortex!!

Steiner's are good glasses. Only experience I have is with the ones that dont have a focus ring they just let your eyes adjust. They were a cool concept and I like them. That all I got for you on them as my time with them was very limited.

Could not agree with you more regarding the Swarovski's, i have the 8.5 x 42 EL and they are fantastic. You did a video on Maven 7 x 28 some time ago so my question is whether you consider the Vortex 8 x 32 a better purchase for more compact glass?

Monarchs are excellent binos. But personally I'd buy the vortex for less money and more bang for the buck. But if you get a smoking deal on the Monarchs or already own them they are fantastic

I bought a pair of vortex binoculars they cost quite a bit of money they fell out of a dining room chair from a height of less than 2 feet onto a linoleum floor they are now no good double vision I had a pair of Pentax binoculars twice as heavy big 20 by 50s fail from twice that distance several times they work perfectly warranty is fine but not if you have to keep sending a product back to get repaired from the slightest of bumps I will not buy vortex binoculars again

Thanks for your prompt reply - and there is a simple solution to the “speed-speak” issue - prepare basic “Cue Cards” prior to each “take”, with key points you’d like to cover, then attach cards above & below the lens. This should assist in preventing brain fade.
