I dropped my 5000ab off a cliff and it bounced 600 yards down a rocky mountain side. It was cased and in a hip pack. Every worked just fine afterwards except it quit reading angles. Vortex replaced it within a week and a half. I absolutely love it. The sensors are under the yellow laser sticker on the bottom

Late to the party but great video. Just picked up the Fury 5000 ABs and really like them. WhiIe I think I will stick with letting the Kestrel 5700 do the heavy lifting (and I like that if the Kestrel gets hot simply swinging it settles the enviros quickly) I like that they are so close that if one goes down the other will get you out of a jam. Redundancy is never a bad thing!
@texas22jack892 жыл бұрын
That’s right! You’ll always have a backup just in case the kestrel goes down or runs out of battery.

excellent review Chris thank you bud, like my kestrel, have a ballistic and does everything I need, prefer to have my binos, rangefinder and kestrel, have a gunwerks rangefinder but a lil on the large side, my carry is a lil Leupold and performs excellent, for hunting have my old Leicas 8x42 and for match some Leupold 15x56. think will keep my kestrel maybe will update to a elite ballistic but my ballistic do the same. Keep us busy with you fine work bud.

This is a tough choice. I'll go with the kestrel because of the live environmentals and because i have trusted it for years. Thanks for the review!
@texas22jack893 жыл бұрын
The fury has sensors for the environmentals that the kestrel does, but the kestrel is definitely a lot quicker to update them than the fury.

You can link the fury and kestrel together for the best of both in one setup

Yeah, good stuff. I linked the Sig to my kestrel so I can get my dope on the display in the binos or via the kestrel.

I considered getting the sig but ended up with the fury because it has the sensors to measure the environment and I can also input wind in the solution
@rwhipple733 жыл бұрын
@@texas22jack89 the mobile app for the Sig let’s you give a wind call as well as importing environmentals from the internet for your location or manually. As well it has AB lite which seems to give pretty good ballistic Solutions based on my parameters that I input. I don’t think I’ll fully trust it without the link from the Kestrel though.

Actually they are built to compliment each other by linking the data from the rangefinder with the Kestrel and the applied ballistics software for all of the combined data including wind with weather data points with the rangefinder, distance being a rather important data point as well
@aring39383 жыл бұрын
Great review Chris. I just picked up the 5000 AB and it doesn’t seem like you can go without the Kestrel since you need wind speed. So for someone like me that doesn’t have a Kestrel, would you recommend just getting a Kestrel 1000 for wind only and let the AB handle other weather conditions and ballistics?
@texas22jack893 жыл бұрын
Hey Arin thank you for watching. It really depends on your application. If you’re shooting a match & want to be competitive, I would recommend getting the Kestrel 5700 since it will give you a more updated environmentals (including measuring the wind). The fury alone may take a little bit longer to adjust to the atmospheric conditions. And you could pair the kestrel with the vortex fury AB. But if you’re mainly hunting or plinking then you should be fine with just buying the kestrel 1000 as a complement to the vortex fury in order to gather wind data.

Can you tru the ballistics on the Fury like you can with the Kestrel?

What’s the max range with ballistic solution on the fury? I believe the Sig only goes to 800?
@texas22jack893 жыл бұрын
The sig goes out to 800 yards in finding the solution. But thefury definitely goes beyond 1000, as far out as it’s able to range something.
@errtuley Жыл бұрын
It depends on how much data you take the time to verify and input. I've had my 6.5 saum out to 2538 with my 5000ab. It was as accurate as any app I've used but a hell of a lot faster
@tomsmith59012 жыл бұрын
Aren’t you missing a central distinction? I don’t own either of these at this point, thus my interest in your video, but it seems that a comparison has to go ‘both ways,’ so what seems to be missing, is that the Fury is also a range-finder whereas the Kestrel is not. Most of your evaluation checked to see if the Fury stacks up to the Kestrel, which it certainly seems to do. The other point of comparison might be price - I think the Fury is rather more expensive, but then you are also getting decent glass and good distance viewing. But, as you note, the Fury is heavier.

How do these things know what the wind is 500 yeards away?
@texas22jack89 Жыл бұрын
It doesn’t. Most of us just reverse calculate the wind downrange based on where we impacted or missed on the previous stage. Or it’s a guesstimate right before the stage as well.
