Incredible video production. Thanks for sharing this with all of the different segments and pieces spliced together. I enjoy your chicken and knife work cutting the hinge tubes. Have you considered adding larger, pneumatic wheels to your equipment table for movement between shop locations? In addition to the scientific information from building this stove, where will you be using this unit? I trust that you are creating a journal documenting your findings. Perhaps you could publish a Tips & Tricks notebook for sale in addition to your rocket stoves. Trusting that you and your family will remain safe during the pandemic as it continues to evolve. Wishing you Peace, health and happiness.

Hello... Nice vid... But i think your basket is a little to high... That might be the reason for the smoke at the first time... Cause it will be a burnback into the filler, and there is no air, and than you have smoke... Maybe shut down 10mm from the upper of your basket... And if it was me... I would build an ashtray which is adjustable... So you can give fresh cold air from below... I think that is the best for your stove I just built my third one and my practice says, give the air from below...

Effort well spent mate, such a nice build! Can you please show a schematics or diagram explaining how it works and how air flows in it? because I'm still confused how it can make such a nice vortex fire in the riser and how the fire doesn't come out of the side pipes. I'm planning on building one for my own project and hopefully can learn much from this one. Cheers!

I would like to give you a tip when machining metal, when you use oil you make a mess. Use paraffin candle wax and you will be surprised as to how much less of a mess you have to clean up and not to mention getting chips in your hands. All you have to do is just run the drill or any tool against the candle wax and you are ready to drill with lubrication without the drip !!!!!! The TIG welding is nice but really easy. I prefer to use SMAW as that is what I learned the first time round. I can weld with either and get the same roll of coins tilted on a slant look. Nice work fella too, stated from the other side of the earth. USA. Peace and good luck too. V

Hey my friend, let me through a thought your way. I,m a retired tool & die maker with a home shop also in the states. I wonder if your vortex is your draw problem. Creating the flame & air to swirl is keeping it from rising up the exhaust pipe. How can it cause draw up the pipe when all the energy is just spinning in the pipe. The draw up the pipe is what draws The air in the intake. I think people get to rapped up in this mixing the gases with a vortex than the benefits it gives, if any. Give that some thought. You are a very talented lad. I just think you maybe over thinking this project. I have done that more than once. I worked for a R & D department building prototypes most of my life.

40:12 A thought I had from part 1 was that apparently the main reason why glass windows in fires get discoloured is the difference between the temperature of the inside of the stove and the outside. The way to solve this is to use two pieces of glass with a gap between them. The owner of the UK’s most successful woodburning stove company told me that in about 2002. Peace

Outstanding. Keep up the verbal info. I hate silent videos. Just out of curiosity ... if the secondary airflow is to create a hotter burn wouldn't a cold airflow be better? If you are burning oxygen ... cold air is heavier, therefore more (condensed) oxygen. I may be wrong ... just thinking. 👍

I find it hard to conceptualize burning gasses because they are invisible. Here are some data that I find useful. (American customary measure and very approximate numbers to make the arithmetic easy 😁.) 1 cubic foot of methane gas yields 1000 BTU. It takes about 10 cubic feet of air to get the 2 cubic feet of O2 to burn the 1 cubic foot of gas. Soft woods yield about 5000BTU per pound. So 1/5th pound would yield 1000BTU. 1 cuft ÷ 35lbs per cuft = .0287cuft, the volume of one pound of wood. .0287 ÷ 5 = .0057 cu ft, the volume of wood needed to yield 1000BTU. TAKING the 10:1 air to gas ratio to guesstimate the air to wood ratio, you need about 10cuft of air for .0057 cu ft of wood. That's about 31/4" X 31/4" X 1" compared to 10 cu ft. These aren't numbers to bet the farm on but they do illustrate why rocket burners roar trying to get all that air through the system.

My proposals; 1) put Air Damper\Controller at the Primary Air pipe Inlet 2) cut off the 2nd Air Square tubing before pallet loader. After that; do not put any air controller (let air enters freely without any human manipulation) 3) remove the air controller at the riser air inlet or always fully open this inlet 4) insulate the riser with perlite

interesting development in it's build. at them Tempricha & the fact it as a ember bed if for example if one intraduct a 2" steel pipe bed was charcoal in to the stream of the burn. in the rocket stove, & a copper pipe was to pas s stem down the. 2" pipe of the charcoal Bead the result in the 2" pipe would result in a plasma created by the burning of oxygen within being burnt off & as a result hydrogen coming out of the other end creating hydro carbon's that will run a generator for of grid camping. so the siystom you have built is capable of boiling water to stem & that stem can be trend into hydrogen to run a engine to produce electricity . their will need to be sufficer supply of caracole to replenish the plasma stream as the oxygen is burnt off so 4" pipe elongated to hold charcoal that can feed the Bern zone . as the oxygen reacts to the charcoal Bern within the pipe . this must reman air free so that hydrogen levelling the pipe dose not become contaminated with air. this is a very impotent point cooling it within your tank of water will allow it to barn oaring or even clear . adding are at the pint of combustion will let it power the engine & drive it without contaminating it with tar like the wood gas devises do at times. once upon a tine the early balloons were field this way, before we used hot air. work as well so their you have. the as some systems on the markit that ues water dripping in to a caracoled Bern zone that sucks the gas out in to a vacuum to power the engine's if this approach is ues the burn zone will remove any oxygen in the siystom . berlin in the rocket stove wood to stat the proses the pint is using stem to predust hydrogen or water drops solong as the oxygen is Bern of in the Bern zone you will have success.

Re fire rotation direction, no it doesn't matter. In general Coriolis effects cause low pressure systems in the equatorial regions to rotate clockwise in the southern hemisphere and anticlockwise in the northern hemisphere imparted by the spin of the earth. This then determines the direction of rotation of the high pressure systems of each hemisphere the southern hemisphere being anticlockwise and the northern clockwise. Why this happens is because equatorial regions are characterized by upward movement of air from convection due to greater solar heating. Coriolis has nothing to do with water going down sinks or baths. On the micro level the effects are negligible for combustion efficiency - in the real world I defy any person to prove otherwise since there's too many variables in a wood heater to conclusively state that Coriolis makes this heater better if the flame spins one direction or that heater better if it spins in the other - meaning the spin direction is irrelevant. What'll make the stove really go is if you put a venturi in it on the pre fire side and use auxiliary air pipe to bypass the venturi for slow combustion and/or moderating the flame. The door/vent etc at the front acts as a venturi anyhow so you'd be reinventing the wheel but it could be refined for the purposes of a small heater for great effect I'm thinking. I'm not sure of why you'd want to pre heat the intake air. Less dense, less volume of air and therefore oxygen (but same % of O2), so less combustion, less heat, less efficiency. Might be beneficial for when it's closed down for slow combustion but!

hahahaha that chicken walking backwards @7:08 cracked me up !!!!! But i also might have a suggestion for the exhaust. Here in Holland, we had in the 70's a lot of houses with an H shaped exhaust. The middle hortizontal pipe would be connected tot he riser., The flow would go left and right, and the heat obviously goes out the top side of the two vertical pipes. Drawing cold air from the bottom, and cause a tremendous suction in the horizontal pipe....if you catch my drift :-) ( img.fruugo.com/product/0/83/18200830_max.jpg )

How long does it take the fire to errode through your unprotected metal? Have you experimented with concrete or ceramic coating?

Expensive for the newcomer but if you had a lot of production work with thin material, it would definitely be the way to go. I think because of the cost it's going to be out of the reach of the average person for some time but as a manufacturer it's cost would be offset by the increase in productivity.
