You should do a rifle cartridge draft. Just like an NFL Draft and try to determine a winner after 10 rounds. Once a caliber is chosen it is off the table. Trades available. Team colors are Mark and Ryan’s favorite Camo patterns. Mascots are their favorite Vortex rifle scopes. Jimmy is commissioner and interviews the coaches on their draft pick.

Well it all depends on range, because of the higher BC's of the 6.5 it will eventually outrun the .270 And the Creedmoor has the added benefit of less recoil, and (for me) MUCH easier to find ammo. I can only think of one store within 50miles of me that regularly has .270 in stock, meanwhile I can walk into any one of a dozen stores within 15miles and find a smattering of creedmoor ammo. The older cartridges are dying out unless you shop online or visit stores more specifically dedicated just to hunting. 6.5Creed is chambered in AR's, SCAR's, hunting rifles, match rifles, you step into a gun store and practically trip over something chambered in 6.5Creed. .270 is nowhere near as popular anymore. I'm not saying it's a bad round, it's EXCELLENT at hunting anything up to elk within 400yds (potentially further with the right bullet and good glass) but the Creedmoor and its PRC cousins have made a serious case for replacing or just becoming to modern "go-to" over a lot of older cartridges for newer shooters.

@Kross87612 жыл бұрын
@@bodiewest9202 not near me, I can occasionally find .30-06, but I haven't seen a box of .270 in any store in probably 2 years. 6.5 Creedmoor however is always available in multiple "flavors". Most stores near me lean much more toward the "tactical" realm, but even sporting goods stores that stock "hunting" chamberings like .270 and such don't have it. I do have a bass pro that's not terribly far, but between their prices being retardedly high and me not needing anything they sell I haven't been there since shortly after it opened in like 2017 so they may have stuff like .270 but I wouldn't know.

My question submission is this: You've freed a Genie from his lamp, but he doesn't give you anything you want, but a choice. He'll rearrange and get you any firearms you'd like, but they have to stick to one of two philosophies. Would you like a collection adequate power, but a lot of capacity? Or would you prefer extreme, maybe even over powered, but low capacity? The choice would swap out every gun in your safe for this philosophy, and would affect everything from your carry weapon to your red dawn weapon to whatever niche or mainstream hunting you enjoy.

Even though I don't have one, the Model 94 Winchester in 30-30 is THE iconic deer rifle. Marlin 336 probably second. Yes the model 70 is the "Rifleman's Rifle" and your 760 is fast with both being available in long range, more powerful, flat shooting cartridges but the 94 was taking deer thirty-one years before the Winchester Model 54 and 42 years before the model 70 was introduced. Of course Savage had its models 1895, 1899 and 99 which were very successful and its model 192O bolt action which was not a big commercial success but definitely ahead of its time and not basically copies of the '98 Mauser like the '03 Springfield and the two Winchester bolt actions.

Of course any decent calibre with good shot placement at the right distance will take deer down. But if I had to choose only "one" calibre for all deer species it would be my 7mm-08. Low recoil, broad load-range and good enough BC and still carries enough energy past 500-600 yards to take down a buck although idk why anyone would wanna shoot that far out but if you really had to it can get it done. For me hunting is all about trying to get as close as you can to the game you're trying to bag.
@The10thManRules2 жыл бұрын
300 HAMR leads the way. Medium sized game can be easily killed by rounds that seem "too small" and also "too big". Find a platform that works for you and train the hell out of it in the conditions where you expect to get your kill. Most people don't train enough so they end up using particular accessories or trendy cartridges as a crutch.

@JamesWillmus2 жыл бұрын
First of all "long range deer gun" is 300-500 yards and you shouldn't be shooting that far unless the deer is wounded. You could be a military sniper and I wouldn't care, limit your shots to a reasonable distance. Second, come on Mark, 6.5 creedmoor? The cartridge is powerful enough, sure, but the bullets you find off the shelf are horrible for hunting. Anything in the 308 family, and anything in the 30-06 family will perform much, much better.

@Kross87612 жыл бұрын
@@JamesWillmus the only significantly "wrong" bullet at the ranges you described are FMJ's and some light varmint rounds. 6.5 creedmoor has enough juice at 400 and in that basically ANY bullet designed for hunting deer sized game will perform well upon impact (and if you don't use them too close a tipped match bullet like a Sierra TMK or a Hornady ELD-M will even work well if you happen to be in a pinch) I'd highly suggest a Hornady ELD-X or a Sierra tipped game king, both work marvelously out to about 500 yards with a 6.5Creedmoor. A good bullet does not mean an animal will drop dead if the shooter executes a poor shot, multiple hits does not mean multiple "good" hits. Vitals or CNS are the only shots I take because that WILL kill the animal quickly pretty much regardless of bullet design, but better bullets work better for that obviously.
