Votia' is an energetic Maloya group from Réunion. The leader is the singer / songwriter Marie-Claude Lambert-Philéas, daughter of the legendary Maloya musician Gramoun Lélé. The powerful Maloya rhythms literally flow through her veins. After years of singing as a backing singer, including in her father's group, she decided to realize a dream. Surrounded by her husband, children and family, she created her own Maloya group called 'Votia', named after her mother from Madagascar. Maloya is the traditional music of Réunion. It is the music of the slaves who worked on the sugar plantations; music as expressive as the blues, in which the feelings of everyday life are expressed whether it be joy or sadness. It is recognizable by its driving percussion and typical melodies sung in Creole and is influenced by the various surrounding cultures, including South Africa and Madagascar.

Votia’ is een energieke Maloya-groep uit Réunion. Leidster is de zangeres / songwriter Marie-Claude Lambert-Philéas, dochter van de legendarische Maloya-muzikant Gramoun Lélé. De krachtige Maloya-ritmes stromen letterlijk door haar aderen. Na jarenlang als achtergrondzangeres gezongen te hebben o.a. in de groep van haar vader, besloot ze een droom te verwerkelijken. Omringd door haar man, kinderen en familie, creëerde ze haar eigen Maloya-groep genaamd ‘Votia’, genoemd naar haar uit Madagaskar afkomstige moeder. Maloya is de traditionele muziek van Réunion. Het is de muziek van de slaven die op de suikerplantages werkten; muziek net zo expressief als de blues, waarin de gevoelens uit het dagelijkse leven worden uitgedrukt of dat nu vreugde is of verdriet. Het is herkenbaar aan zijn stuwende percussie en typische melodieën gezongen in het Creools en wordt beïnvloed door de verschillende omringende culturen o.a. Zuid-Afrika en Madagaskar.
