“ In 1973 this was the first time I became fully aware of The Isley Brothers when ‘That Lady’ was on heavy rotation on am radio. Later in High School around 1978 I heard this beautiful ballad ‘Voyage to Atlantis’ . I never made the connection that the song made very popular in the film ‘Animal House’ was The Isley’s song called ‘Shout’. I also heard ‘ Twist & Shout’ growing up in the 60’s but had no idea The Beatles were not the writers.”

That was because there were radio stations dedicated to different genres back then, not the "radio soup" we get today with everything thrown in together. A rock station played rock. A blues station played blues and the country stations played country. Sometimes music would "crossover" into another genre, but not often.

I just discovered this video today. I grew up trying to play this and many other Isley Brothers songs. I also like to play my own lead during the passage where Ron Isley is improvising at the end, echoing his lines with my own, which is something I don't believe Ernie did (at least where I heard it). I learned all this stuff by ear off their records, so I'm curious to see if you've come up with the same stuff I did. If not, so much the better!
