Voyager Auto Lifter Issue

Boys and Girls,
While playing around with using a cordless drill to lift my Voyager Tabletop, I had a major issue. Watch this video before committing to unconditional use of a cordless drill to lift.
Keep an eye on spindle wobble.

its the common problem with SS and soft material when rotating without lube it picks up a shard of metal and scores the bore of the softer material and the shaft as well sometimes.

Sorry to hear that. It’s a good idea. The cast iron is too soft for the stress of the drill modification. You could attach a plate with a hardened bushing to prevent the elongation. You have an extra part to work with so maybe you can figure something out.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm just a hack woodie with bugger all metalurgy knowledge. I never dreamt that cast could be so "easily" distorted. I think it was due to not having the shaft parallel with the spindle and not securing it properly... letting it "vibrate" in an oval path. I've since replaced the lifting handle (crank) with a wheel u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZX43R0ZzC6cmFW1Mo0xPpI1VvbzPkQhFs8V and that should be sufficient for me.

@@alexkara9696 Excellent job. I think that looks great. I’m not a metal worker either. I hope to implement something to make it easier to raise and lock my drill press. This gives me another idea. Cheers.

I am not sure the drill is the culprit, more likely galling, if you still have the collar and pivot gear an wish to have it repaired it may be possible, give me a call if its of interest.
