Ghosts. People live in lynx territory all their lives and never catch so much as a glimpse. Watched a series of a photo guy who lived inside such a territory in Norway and tried for years. He tracked them in the snowy winters, but always lost the tracks (they lead you around). He spent countless hours in photo hides etc. Nothing. They always know exactly where you are and you never know exactly where they are. Finally, after several years of this obsession, he "got" one: On one of his many trail cams. This is one gorgeous cat! I didn't realize they looked quite so similar and had the short tails like our bobcats here in NJ. I knew that a bobcat was a species of Lynx, without the ear tufts, but I just read that they are about the same size, and the bobcat can actually grow larger than the Canadian Lynx. We see one fairly often on our trail cams (it's a woodsy area) that we think is about 35 pounds. He likes to use a fallen log to cross the stream in the back and actually got chased away by some raccoons a few years ago...
@b.a.erlebacher11393 ай бұрын
@@jtidema Bobcats vary a lot in size by climate. In the southern part of their range they tend to be lighter and lanky in build and stockier and heavier as the range goes north. While there's a little overlap in range in parts of southern Canada, lynxes do so much better with deep snow they pretty much take over the range in those areas. Lynxes have huge feet that act like snowshoes, and they can tolerate the climate up through the thin forest near the tundra. Bobcats are usually found only in the southernmost parts of Canada
@ELcinegatto872 ай бұрын
The Eurasian Lynx's they have in Central/Eastern Europe and Russia are even bigger, basically twice the size. A large tom can grow up to 65-85lbs. They can take down large deer. It's true about Bobcats, there are basically subspecies of them depending on the region and climate in the US and their coat/patterns also vary as well. Some are short and stocky, others long and thin and Northern US Bobcats somewhere in between. This was a rather large Canadian Lynx, most are usually a bit smaller than the one depicted in this video.
