The only reason I bought this on the Switch was because I was in Japan when it came out and it's way cheaper there (¥6000 which is the equivalent of about $37 USD). The fact that they're charging a full 60 bucks for this in the US is crazy

TLDR: great video, keep it up man ^^ This popped up in my recommended, I saw that it had 3k views and gave it a watch, and was like “oh that was pretty good, let’s give this channel a shot and subscribe for whatever they put out next.” That’s when I opened the channel (I was watching on a tv), and saw that I was actually a week behind because that’s what I thought last week and it probably popped up because I was already subscribed. Please takeaway from this that I thought your videos were good enough to earn a sub both times, and write-off the fact I didn’t recognize you as a result of the sheer volume of content in the pool at this point!

I love that you took the comparison to LM1 in a very good way, the athmosphere, the bosses, the cutscenes in 2 instead of just play... That you adressed that 3 adressed that too is great. Also I really really liked that you still pointed out that LM2 does a lot of good things even if the decision NextLevelGames made were a bit weird sometimes

On your point about Download play in the original, it also allowed for online. So you could download Scarescraper for someone nearby, then go online and play with randoms. It's the only game (to my knowledge) that allowed this.

I agree that the mission structure of the second game is antithetical to the atmosphere Luigi's Mansion is known for. That, and the generally sillier tone destroying any sort of tension or any bit of eerie atmosphere makes this game worse than the original in my opinion. I know it's trying something new, and we wouldn't want the game to stagnate, but I feel like it still could have innovated while having such tonal dissonance.

I only bought the original Dark Moon on my 3DS because I thought the original game. Only completed it once and stopped playing halfway through my second playthrough for unknown reasons and never went back. Also I don't have friends so multiplayer is useless to me. I should go back to it...

Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon is a great game. This game is over hated and Scare Scraper mode is awesome.

Luigi’s Mansion 2/Dark Moon is still a really good game. People forget that, back in the day, when Luigi's Mansion launched with the GameCube, the game wasn't the most popular, and its only been recently where "GameCube kids" prop the game up as some sort of masterpiece. Don't get me wrong, I'm a pretty big fan of the original Luigi's Mansion, but people dog on LM2/Dark Moon just because it isn't exactly like the original game. Obviously, people can have preferences and LM2/Dark Moon certainly isn’t a perfect game, but it has a lot of great elements that people overlook just to complain about things like the mission structure and lack of portrait ghosts. Why can't the pros of the game be discussed more? Like sure, yeah, LM2/Dark Moon probably is the weakest, but why does that qualifier always need to come up when talking about this game? It just feels disingenuous for the effort Next Level Games put into reviving a dormant IP. LM2/Dark Moon deserves to be judged on its own merits-not being constantly compared to the original game-and is underrated, at least in my opinion.

The problem with saying it deserves to be judged on its own merits and not compared to the original is... It's a sequel. Not JUST a sequel, but a sequel that had fans had been waiting for a long time. Of course it's going to be compared to the original. And with 3, it's going to be compared to that as well. And it's easily the weakest of the 3. You're allowed to like it, though, that's the wonderful thing about opinions

I never played LM2, I went from playing the original when I was a kid to LM3 a few years ago, but I'm not surprised with the flaws you mention. I think the problem, in contrast to Donkey Kong Returns for example, is that this game was always meant to be a portable experience, something you picked up, played for a bit and left for later, so playing it as a console game feels completely different from the other two. I think this was a bad choice for a remake, Kid Icarus would've been a much better fit especially since that game was made with dual sticks in mind and never really played well on the DS. I still need to play this one, and I haven't decided if I'll get it on Switch or on 3ds. Obviously scarescraper online is a huge point for the remaster, but it also seems like the game would fit in better overall in the 3ds library. I will smile and wave though as many basic Nintendo remasters as it takes to get Kid Icarus Uprising HD

I respect all the points you made and mostly agree with all of them. LM2 really deserved a REMAKE instead of a remaster, especially since it's an odd decision to just include 2 and not 1 in the same package. But since they did decide to just go with 2, they should've went all out. Would've made the $60 more justified (I bought it anyway for scarescraper too lol)

I like Luigi's Mansion 2 level-select design because I enjoy replaying the bosses, and the other missions with fully upgraded poltergust. The only thing I hate about Luigi's Mansion 3 is only one playthrough experience, and there's no new game plus.

I agree with your criticisms but also still really like Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon 🌙 despite not having the atmosphere or structure of the first so I got it again on the Switch to re-experience it. Though yeah one thing they should have at least changed for the switch re-release is making it so you don’t have to redo the whole damn level again just to get a gem 💎 or Boo. 👻

Yeah Luigi mansion 2 kinda disappointed and the game itself just a mission based it's not like you can't explore the mansion you still can find some secret but you don't have freedom like first Luigi mansion and third do and the ghost design kinda boring though ngl other than that it's still a good game it just disappointed funny enough they charge more price for the remaster than original one
