Thanks, Matt your doing a good job and you're likable on top of it your dad must be proud of you. Keep up the great work I have an old scout and love it and never felt the need to upgrade it.

Thank you for doing this. As a recent VPI Prime owner, I’d love a detailed video outlining the specifics of setting the anti skate, describing everything from: how fast the arm should be moving when set correctly, the angle in which the mechanism should be facing when attached to the line, the purpose of the tiny rubber rings, etc. Thanks again!

very good maintenance stuff indeed. I personally use transmission oil since years for all my bearings and other High Mass Turntables. Before putting new oil on it I do I clean the platter bearing with "Nevr Dull" first - the results are amazing ....The surface got magic---

Thank you. It looks very simple. Could you please specify what grease exactly do we have to buy? Some dealers say it cannot be any synthetic grease, because most will damage the moving parts. Is this correct or can we buy any synthetic grease? Thanks!

Thank you for showing how to lube the motor! Which Super Lube oil is recommended? There are several viscosities available.
@johnsweda29994 жыл бұрын
jd002200 used manual gearbox transmission oil 80 sae low viscosity or you could use motor spindle oil design for Motors

Regarding the method in the video of lubricating the motor by putting 1-2 drops of oil in the hole in the top of the pulley, does this work for all VPI motors, eg the TNT HRX motor? Seems so much simpler than trying to remove the pulley. In my case, the screws holding the pulley in place are very tight and will not loosen.

Perhaps you could share what type and size screwdriver used to remove the screws?

what about older models like TNT IV with flyweel and not inverted bearing? thanks.

I use white lithium grease because it does not drip, and I already have it handy around the house and garage.

So, should i lube my Prime yearly or is this a one time thing? I've had my Prime for 4 years and never applied any lubrication yet.

Quick notes, the procedure is different if you have the Prime Scout. For it, you must pull out the spindle to get to the bearing which is at the bottom of the spindle. Also, the motor doesn’t appear to have the hole on top of the pulley to drop the lube in. Mat, I’m assuming for the Scout, we need to remove the pulley to lube?
@JonathanBlackhall5 жыл бұрын
It was a good idea to make a video like this. No need to clean the old bearing lube out from the platter?
@Slammintone5 жыл бұрын
Do clean out the old grease with alcohol and Q tips. It doesn’t take but a minute and then you are all set to apply the bearing lube to the spindle ball.
@hamidnia72425 жыл бұрын
Wait, isn’t the spindle and plater are relatively fixed in respect to each other and spindle turn over a bearing? Where is the bearing? Inside the plater hole? Or down under the plinth?
@Slammintone5 жыл бұрын
The bearing is the ball on top of the shaft where he applies the grease. The thrust plate is inside the middle of the platter.

Gotta say, after five years my Primes spindle bearing shows no wear or galling. This is due to using the VPI recommended grease every 9-12 months after cleaning out what’s left of the old grease.

How do I remove the bearing shaft - the metal piece with the bearing that Matt lubes - it's attached to the plinth and the platter goes on top of it (shaft goes inside the platter).
@johnsweda29994 жыл бұрын
Rob Rider not sure what you trying to say the spindle is bearing attached to the plinth
Imagine my surprise (and mounting anger) when I (the owner of a VPI Scout 1.1 turntable) tried to follow the latter part of this video in order to lube my TT's bearing. . . . Jeez, Mat, at least mention that your company has sold turntables for which the lubing of the bearing is NOT as you show here! Very bad assumption on my part that Mat and VPI would be self-aware enough to realize that this video will NOT work for all owners of VPI turntables.

Hey @Charles Jenkins sorry we missed that part, this was the 5th video of a very long day of shooting. Did the best we could on it, but there is always room for another video.

Shame on you for not knowing how to lube a non-inverted bearing. That info is readily available if you cared to make an effort to look for it. I easily found it when looking to lube my Aries bearing. Do you need to be spoon fed everything in your life? You must be a treat to live with.
@johnsweda29994 жыл бұрын
Can lube up with grease on the end it's better to do so with non inverted bearing just don't overdo it too much, use a Q-Tip to take some out. 2 millimetre above from its normal resting position is fine

@@jgfergus When I lay out the cash that I did for the 1.1, yes, hell yes, I expect some help with maintenance that isn't well-described by VPI. And, jeez, Jefe, how am I supposed to know that the 1.1 has "a non-inverted bearing"? Your ill will is a treat, pal.

Critical maintenance, replace the motor every year. Also replace the gauled up spindle, this occurs every six months or so from the use of the cheapest Chinese steel obtainable. VPI will be happy to sell you all these parts at MSRP prices even though they left the factory defective.
