Speaking as part of the industry myself, we are still SO early in the VR space. I really think that especially for indie devs, there's so many opportunities to make best in class content for VR and avoid the insane competition in traditional gaming / 3D development. Great video, hopefully you've pushed someone to give this awesome technology a shot! 😄

Absolutely! So looking forward to where this industry is going

Totally agree! It's definitely far from too late to jump into VR dev. The space is so promising, and not just for games. Most people think of games when they talk about VR but it's so much more than that. Even if you can't start your career as a VR game dev, you can jump into other promising areas, including education and simulation. I work for a healthcare organization and our team has been experimenting with VR for two years. Recently, we have noticed a lot of money being pumped into the broader XR training space within the healthcare industry which means we are just now entering the ground floor.

Never too late! I think VR is now getting more exciting than ever. This channel has been a great source of VR development info, especially for a research project I am working on. We are investigating human-robot interaction on construction sites, and simulations have enabled us to explore multiple parameters, which were otherwise impossible if this wasn't done in VR. Keep it up, Justin. I am hoping to release the assets for the project somewhere in mid-September. And again, the VR jams are cool, though I didn't have time to participate.

@@JustinPBarnett I was just coming at it form the point of view that in Unity Im pretty sure the reverse kinematics of the human body are probabaly well documented by now. We have access to all rotation and position data from vr headsets and controller, and the power of the C# language. When you also consider Unity's support for AR, and networking too, it dosent take much imagination to see how you could build at least the upper torso of a vr controlled robot

We're probably in the sweet spot of VR development, still plenty of places to experiment and improve, and a lot of game genres and ideas that you can adapt to VR that aren't here yet (either way it's never too late, just like "flat screen" game development )

Even making game assets is different for VR due to the way you can view say a fps weapon. Vert counts need to managed carefully. Framerates need to be kept high. It ain't easy being in VR.

I don't think so, I'm doing dev diaries for classic games to VR, just to get my feet wet in understanding how to implement features. However, on a professional level, I really believe that VR is going to be big in the immersive environments such as Education and training. Nursing, dangerous environments. Anything that reduces the risk but maximises the learning potential.
