This wont fix anything and its just data mining $$$$$ .... VRC could just make it M/17+ and put the responsibility on the parents for once instead of the community but that would be to easy of a fix. Think of it this way. GTA-V is rated M/17+ yet VRC is rated PG-13.. let that sink in..

You just need to be aware that the system doesn't work across the globe and doesn't accept documents from a whole bunch of countries, so people from those are screwed by default. Plus do you really want to give away personal data and ids to a data broker just for some questionable benefits in a game which is in a perpetual beta close to a decade now.

They're still the ones held responsible for their children if the rating was raised instead of the developers or community members as even with this 'verification' process there will still be kids allowed on the platform and the burden will be on the community. For example little squeakers will still sneak into 18+ events but the dev's and community will be held responsible if anything bad happens to them instead of the neglectful deadbeat parents. Everyones tired of baby sitting other peoples kids. And worse bro, its been argued this could make it easier for legit predators to stay hidden by NOT verifying as adults so they can get closer to the virtual school yards. As for data mining. You're giving your data to a 3rd party commercial entity 'trust us we wont re-sell your data or accidently leak it for marketing purposes' ...given all the concerns around personal data in this modern world... is a concern being raised by many. Hope these answered your questions and gave a different perspective on the subject.

I mean in Roblox 17+ games I rarely see children. And when they do show up they're udually quickly reported, so it certainly does work. There are legit almost no kids in 17 Roblox games

the points you made are the exact points i made in reference to the age verification not being perfect. vrchat could never become a paid game though, it would die out immediately since all content is user created

My personal opinion is that it is far easier to ask your parents for $40 than it is to ask for their ID and a selfie of them. How many kids do you see on Call of Duty? $70 game. Furthermore, I believe a liveness check is required as part of the verification process, so just a picture of them isn't enough, they'd have to take it inside of the verification process.

I personally don't want to pay for VRChat, but it is interesting that you suggest that, because in the update video they did mention that "this costs money" but they did not elaborate or talk about how they are going to cover the costs.

the problem with the paied method is that you can no longer do that without elemenating the majority of your playerbase. shure it will cut down a good amount of trolls but it will also cut down 50 maby 60% of the rest and it will basically kill vrchat again. and this time without any way to revive it without undoing the payment. not to mention there are vrchat alternitives that are free.

i understand the idea of making it paid but, i think that would just piss off too many people, but i do get what you mean about people trying to use a false verification source. hopefully this system works against fake ids(btw idk anything on this topic), if it doesn't then thats even more problematic to me.

my only issue with it is the data is stored indefinitely by default, and the people saying that vrchat can only see age is wrong and don't know how the persona platforms works, that fact was made up on twitter. Either way i don't do adult stuff in vrchat so it's funny to see people mad over it, but it's also understandable why they're mad.

Persona servers and vrchat servers are not the same. Vrchat does not store any info sans your birthday on their servers, which is how the verification works. Persona verifies the information and then only your birthday is passed on to VRC servers for records. From what can be gathered, Persona has never had a massive breach of data, so your information is safe regardless. Your ID is actually safer on their servers than it is in your wallet.

@@donut2ninja You have no clue what you're talking about read the persona documentation it's stored on persona servers, but can be accessed directly from vrchat admins who have an account with persona. Read the actual documentation from the official persona website, instead of reading social media posts. In fact, they have to have access to it to comply with GDPR, you can't just store someones data forever without a way to deleted it.

Then when we have the same amount of logins as there are days in 5 years. By the time they reach that 5 years the User would Highly likely be 18 since the minimum age is 13. Even if it wouldn't completely remove all the kids and teenagers it would Minimize it a lot Also then you get the rank you will be able to make instances where only people who has that rank can join. All of this would be way better and NO ONE would have to send in there ID and Picture, This would be safer and automatic slowly over time minimize the issue by it self. SO PLEASE TELL ME THIS = What Makes You Think VRChat is any different? when they said they're not using your info, that's because their obligated to state so, but that doesn't mean its true Also the reason why many companies don't do these ID Uploading Verification systems is because people don't want to share that Info and makes them uncomfortable. All that needs to happen is for someone to screw over VRChat and BOOM! Now someone else has your ID and can Screw over your life. This is a whole over level of problems compared to if your credit card info got stolen, since you can ask your bank to close your card. But You can't Close your ID since it proves your existence. It doesn't work like that in other words this system that VRChat is providing is not going to work and only maybe 10% of the player base will be fine with sharing their info because they don't care, but most people wouldn't wanna share their ID.

Would anyone be against an 18+ branch of VRChat? Having a Kid and Adult version of the game? Similar to how second life has General, Moderate, and Adult regions. Personally, i'd play the subscription fee for that even if it was behind a pay-wall VRC+ style.

Persona uses facescan with picture of your id to make sure its you. So Its pretty hard to cheat the system. Ofc kids could ask their parents to do it at least there is a big barrier to go over.

making the game paid wouldn't really CHANGE things, especially for the kids because kids always get gift cards for games, for example. A sane parent wouldn't let their child get gta for specific reasons.. but if a child got like a psn gift card, they could go buy it themself. so with vrchat, a steam gift card. but vrchat still is not a game for kids.. at all. forget all of that actually. a lot of things are easy to bypass online. kids can and will get past that age verification. it all just depends on humanity.. this wont change the game that much.

not sure how you can circumvent the verification process. Maybe if you take your parents id or some form of id to use, but that seems WAY too much work for a kid to wanna join a more adult lobby just for them to get banned from it

yeah i assume you'd just get reported for being a kid then then you'd have to reverify after some checks are made and I'm guessing you wouldn't be able to use the same ID so kids would maybe be able to bypass it like 3 times then be locked out soooo, seems like a decent system to me

@@Vondekirk vrchat is too big and too simple of a game for it to be "beaten" by any other game, ive been playing it for 7 years and trust me i know it sucks when it comes to some stuff and i do hate it, but at the end of the day i like how simple it is. SURE in the future we may get better stuff but for now and for next few years vrchat is at the top. There simply isnt many ppl nor interest in other gmaes

Verification and limiting the base game would get rid of a lot of the trolls tbh. If your account isn't verified would be limited to basically curated content. Selected game worlds, selected social worlds, and selected adventure worlds (sight seeing i guess?). Basically a taste of the game. There still will be trolls and people going around the systems, but limiting where they are allowed to go to specific instance can encourage people to verify and ultimately get trolls to be stuck in unverified lobbies and get bored. Plus, allows people who for whatever reason don't wish to be verified to still be able to do the basics in the game, but to access things like custom worlds, more social events and the full options they'd need to verify. and from there the game will basically self limit what the account can do. 18+ worlds or only regular ones. Transitioning the game to a full pay to play makes it kind of rough for those already integrated in to want to continue as dumb as it may sound. especially with VRC+ already being a bare bones subscription

I wouldn't be too upset paying a flat fee once. but if we go with the ranks for "veteran" players, it kind of makes it hard to determine how ranks are given. especially with VRC+ stating it boosts ranks. would be interesting system though and wouldn't be opposed to seeing how they could make it work

Good thing overall tbh, I wouldn't in 1 million years give my license to VRchat, but that's ok since the game died after the added an anti-cheat, and for any kids that get it on their quest (because their parents are insane enough to give the developing mind a reality altering experience) has a harder time running into 1/3rd of the game's population: predators.
