I had a few people request that I make a video covering how I made my tail wag animation and how I use it along with my headpat interaction with avatar dynamics! This video assumes you have a basic understanding of avatar dynamics and how to set up senders and receivers already! If you don't, be sure to check out my other videos explaining those systems!

is there a way this could be more in depth? after the animation part i kinda got lost on how you did the float etc bc i didnt see that in my animator, or the part that shows the headpat being made, etc

The headpat animation itself is just a reused face expression from my face gestures, so you can drag and drop one of your own for that or make one of your own if you'd like. The float is a parameter that you need to make in your parameter list in your animator.

This would've been a lot more helpful had you actually included how the "off" toggle for the tail wag works, since a moving animation is not a normal toggle on/toggle off type of situation.

Sorry about that! I had originally just made the video because quite a few people were asking me in game how I did the headpat interacting with my tail wag, but I hadn't thought to include an "off" animation for the tail wag. If you want to do an off animation you would just want that animation to be your tail at the default rotation/position state when it is completely straight (if that is the particular position you are wanting it at least).

Thank you for this! Can you recommend a good intro to Unity/Avatar3.0? I'm new to all this but I'm a quick study. My approach so far has been to start with an idea in mind, then just dive in and work my way backwards to the solution. While I've had some success I'm breaking more stuff than I'd like and I could use a good overview to help patch up some knowledge gaps.

Currently, I'd be most comfortable recommending sippbox's videos for getting started with 3.0 avatars. I've been intending to start my own series/guide for putting together an avatar in unity from square one, but there's a lot of planning I've been doing for it so that I don't accidentally misinform people on how to do things. At the moment though, sippbox is probably your best bet as I've seen a few of their videos and they're solid places to start!

You showed us how to do the tail and my friend and I are completely lost because we're like, he didn't show us how to do the headpat!

The headpat animation is just me re-using a face expression from my gestures! I essentially just took my happy face that I normally do with finger point and made it so that the headpat would trigger the same face expression when someone came in contact with my head. You can grab one of your face expressions you already have and reuse it there, or if you would like to, you can create a custom face animation to play by messing with your own blendshapes on your avatar. The only reason I didn't show making a face animation is that it can vary quite a bit from person to person as to what blendshapes that have on their avatars.

how do i fix the tail coming through the stomach?

What do you mean? If you animation is causing your tail to move through your stomach then you'd want to change it so that it moves things properly, but I'm not sure what you mean exactly by the tail coming through the stomach.

@@Wolfy527 well in unity it animates how I want, wagging behind the avatar, but in vrchat it suddenly sticks out the front wile animated.

@@Wolfy527 yes. i turned that on, but it still keeps pointing to the front of my avatar.

@@cyberstar251 Do you have "Write Defaults" mixed in your FX layer? I.e. some of your animations have "Write Defaults" turned on and some of them have it off?

Sorry about that! I've increased my volume in newer videos because I had quite a few people tell me the video was too quiet overall!
