TL;DR; ✅ This motherboard _can achieve_ all-core turbo boost with this🌡 processor. ℹ VRM cooler can accumulate excess heat under sustained load, case fan a good idea. 🌡 I ran Cinebench 3 times, VRM measured 55°C, 64°C, 70°C after each run.

thanks for your reply. the top fan, instead of blowing in, is it an idea to let it blow out all that heat for the vrm? I'm already looking forward to your videos

@@sejdijaavdi2517 Both will work well and it all matters on your set up in your case and how you have your fans. On my set up I am using the CoolerMaster MasterBox Q300L which has a full perforated body for awesome airflow. I have 2 top exhaust fans and the motherboard sits right up on them so it works great for added airflow and exhausting any heat coming off the VRM heatsink. If I had the space I would put an 80mm fan right on the VRM heatsink itself just to make sure when under heavy work loads or I would do this if your case has bad airflow etc.

@@BensTechLab hey Ben are you familiar at all with the mini ITX version of this board from Machinist? I just set one up with an E5-2670 v2 and I wonder if there is a BIOS flash available for this board to unlock it for some BLCK overclocking. I do have a fan blowing directly at the VRM. Side note: the mini ITX version board is slightly longer than a regular mini ITX board, I guess to make room for the NVME drive. Which is a big PITA in a small form factor case that only has two GPU slots available, it pushes the PCI-E over by one slot so that I can only fit a single slot card in my case :/

I have one HuananZhi X79 deluxe motherboard paired with E5-4627V2 (8C/8T, all core 3.5Ghz), with 32GB (4x8GB) of REEC 1600 DDR3 and a GTX 1080Ti. All powered by Rosewill 650W Bronze PSU. My eldest daughter uses it for graphics designing/drawing, light gaming, and VR. The PC case is a CoolerMaster Masterbox Pro RGB with 3x120mm inlet and 1x120mm exit. I installed one 90mm RGB fan blowing on the VRM heatsink, to ensure the temps remain low with this Chinese MB. I simply glued the top of the fan frame to the bottom of the cases top plate, at an angle to not obstruct the flow of air into the CPU fan cooler. Works like a charm and I have had no issues for over a year with this particular rig. I chose the E5-4627V2 (locked) because it has a relatively high native turbo and therefore, with BIOS fixed multipliers set to 35x across all cores, manages the load very well AND at low temps. I prefer this approach with these Chinese MB's, as paying a premium for an unlocked CPU with an OC to 4.1Ghz may put too much stress on the power delivery. Even though prices have dropped significantly for the E5-1650V2, I prefer the higher core count of the E5-4627V2. Yes, I lose hyper threading but this is a non issue for the use case.

If you have the same Board in the video, that i have to, and you want a better cooling solution because you,and i dont like toasty things (because the hotter something runs means more elektric resisting the less reliability it is) i got a cheap effective cooling solution. i bought some aluminum strips from ebay 2mm thick and placed them squeezed between the fins of the Stock VRM heat sink 24 of them. basically i extend it the VRM mass 4 times and tdp with hit temps are not going higher anymore above 50c. Additional when you like it tight you can use glue, i used tiny bit of fermit (5€) its heat resisted up to 1100c (well i guess little overkill but works)

(I've got my sound disabled right now and will watch on another pc in a few minutes) My new x79 JGINYUE mobo is showing 118C - is that real and if so can a fan or duct directed towards the chipset make it safe ? (There's a fan at the bottom of the Rosewill Prism case blowing straight up to the right side of the video card so the chipset should be getting some cool air -??)) The video card is blocking some airflow right at the X79's heatsink - on top of the mess, the BIOS doesn't seem to remember the boot procedure.AH - so those temperatures are the Voltage regulator pass devices ?? -If so, then maybe I could rotate my cpu cooler 90 degrees
@BensTechLab
@BensTechLab 2 жыл бұрын
Some of these aftermarket motherboards will report an incorrect temperature with a 30 degree offset. So 118 maybe 88 degrees which is still a bit hot. I'd give it a go with case fans or diy heatsinks if you can! What processor are you running? A higher TDP than mine?

@@BensTechLab I think the sensors are way off --at idle I checked the regulator heatsinks with a laser pointer thermometer and a meat thermometer -both were in the high 70s "F" (room around 57F) and ballpark confirmed by a finger. This Rosewill Inwin 101 style case (also marketed as a Sharkoon) is really cool - of course the GPU under load will bake the chipset. The power supply 's intake is right above the VRM heatsink and there's a fan on the floor feeding cool air to and around the GPU past the x79 heatsink. The pc may be good to go. Many thanks.

@BensTechLab 3 жыл бұрын
Theoretically it will work fine! The 2680v2 has a little higher TDP, and so will stress the VRM a little bit more. So you just need to pay more attention to keeping your VRM cool or the motherboard may prematurely fail due to heat or have stability issues. You can use a case fan facing the VRM, a downdraft CPU cooler or add thermal mass to the heatsink (add more aluminum).

just in case, you might wish to redo your thermal compound application once you put that server into use. The pea size glob technique I find not enough to deal with 95 W + cpu. I usually use the X method when applying thermal paste. It's better coverage than the pea size method. Might also result in potential thermal reading by the sensor and your manual thermal probe.
@BensTechLab
@BensTechLab 3 жыл бұрын
I did remove and reapply the thermal paste a few times through a few rebuilds and my pea size seemed to be fine. But it also depends on the brand and viscosity of your thermal paste. I did buy and use Noctua NT-H1 even on cheap chinese ebay coolers because I could buy a larger 10g syringe on amazon for handling rebuilds which will be enough for a bunch of applications (what's a pea size, 1/2 g?).

I am not sure what you are referring to exactly. But, keep in mind the turbo boost is dependent on how many CPU cores are active. For example 1 core load will turbo boost to max, 2 core will boost a little less, 4 core less, etc. Most CPUs have a "Single Core Turbo Boost" spec and then a separate "All Core Turbo Boost" spec which won't be as high.

The make and version of the Mobo maker makes a difference in quality of the components used. Tech Yes City, Craft Computing and Philscomputerlab do a good job with giving you an idea what of the chinese made x79 or x99 mobos to consider with Xeon use. From what I have seen Atermiter and Machinist are good..be careful with Huanan brand. Huananzhi is also good, according to Bryan from Tech Yes City. Also, if you are in doubt with the vrm temps on the mobo you are using..use a downdraft air cooler solution instead of front to back or up and down. I'm considering an AliExpress Atermiter x79 bundle with e5-2650 v2 w/16 or 32 gb of ddr3 ecc registered. For a Linux Mint build for daily driver along with VM testing of linux distros in mind.
