As a lifelong Toto fan I can't imagine how anyone could harbor any bad feelings against Simon joining. He was the perfect choice. Chops and groove by the mile and yet totally not Jeff - that's why he was the perfect choice. And listen to Tambu and Mindfields and Falling in Between, those records wouldn't be what they are without Simon's sense of time and dynamics and his unique sound. Just as the Jeff era was wonderful, the Simon era was equally wonderful. I have nothing but the greatest respect and love and gratitude for everything Toto was with Simon, and therefore to my life too.

Simon Phillips saved the band. Toto did a Jason Newstead choosing a very different player because it was too hard to choose someone that stylistically played like Jeff. Simon is in a perfect position to author a comprehensive manual for music engineering-from the perspective of the band, to production, and to the audience. I am my own artist and am not the previous person and never want to be. I usually tell them to eat shit and find another robot to play drums for them. I will maintain their music style and key recognized kicks but the rest is at my discretion, that's what makes me a musician. I find I get most of great gigs because I don't duplicate 100%.

Simon was perfect for Toto and brought a lot of excitement to the live shows especially. Shannon Forest replaced him and to me, he was too close to Jeff’s style.

If you have not heard, Shannon is back by the way.

Luke said they wanted to focus on Ghost Note, which may be true. Sput especially loves playing funky music. Luke did express a desire, however, to return to more of the original arrangements, without disparaging the recent funkier sounds. Regarding the third tour with Journey, he said they weren't going to do it (but Journey made them an offer they couldn't refuse --Neal is a big fan!). Good thing because whether its giving returning members a raise or having to bring back the "older" more expensive musicians... TOTO's costs were bound to increase.

@@Calbear94 I have heard rumors about their departure. But it's not my place to speculate or put that information out there. It will come out eventually if it's true.
