Mental manipulation is a powerful weapon if you know how to condition someone. With Grey here it works in Blacks benefit. Kid watched his own parent get ejected when they were wrongly accused, Black used that to mold Grey to believe that they were the villains. And that they should suffer for what they did to their parent. And with all that pent up emotions of betrayal and separation. It probably threw Grey over the edge.
