I feel like this is a big improvement over the one in Brawl. The guitars and synth represent the fight at hand, and they do it perfectly. The little music box takes you back to Samus' childhood, and reminds you why Samus hates Ridley so much.

Here’s my beef with this song, hear me out: Ridley got a new theme just for his addition. His trailer was well set-up and hype AF. The trailer proceeded to use the version from Brawl. Maybe the new remix wasn’t finished yet (and that’s excusable if so) but later in World of Light, when you unlock-fight Ridley, he uses the Brawl version again! Then near the end for the Little Birdie spirit fight, the new remix gets used!! This theme is so good, but you never hear it when fighting Ridley directly!

Something i genuinely love about this theme that i don't see mentioned too often is the subtle and quite short inclusion of Samus's theme before going back to Ridley's theme with a menacing guitar riff Maybe I'm reading a bit too much into it, but i can't help but interpret it as a metaphor on how Ridley keeps coming back to Samus's life to make things harder for her when she least expects it and i think that's an amazing detail!

Gotta love those absolutely irredeemable villains. This guy literally ate Samus’ mother and later taunted her by showing off the flesh he regenerated from consuming her. Nintendo has some seriously awesome baddies in their lineup. You’ve got goofy guys like Bowser stealing the princess and DeDeDe eating all the food, and then you have insane shit like a genocidal space dragon pirate sociopath, a reincarnated sorcerer who wields the concept of power itself, and the *literal embodiment of evil* that can only be defeated by praying. Like, holy shit, Nintendo, bring back some of that edge, because it’s SO good!

Ridley is my absolute favorite villain in all of fiction. For the longest time, that title has been a toss up between him, Oogie Boogie (Nightmare Before Christmas), and Muzan (Demon Slayer), but I can confidently say that Ridley claims that spot. He is ruthless for sheer love of the game. His heart used to pump blood, but after losing to Samus, his heart only pumped hatred. In my eyes, Ridley would’ve let Samus die like the rest of his victims, but because Samus beat him, he will not forfeit his soul until he wins by hook or crook. He will track Samus across the multiverse if it means settling the score. That’s what I love about him. As a fighter, he’s alright, I guess.
