Hey coop at about 3:50 you mentioned the two types of ammo having differing "surface areas", and that may be true but I don't think it's what you meant. I believe the word you were looking for is "cross sectional area". Surface area encompasses an objects entire surface, but not all surfaces of projectiles matter, (aka the length of a bullet doesn't affect it's air resistance). cross sectional area is the area of the two-D shape that an object makes when looked at head on, and that is what affects how much air resistance it would have.

That's kind of interesting, really; that grouping was substantially- surprisingly, even- tight at the medium-ish range you shot at. I'm not super into nerf (you may be in the process of changing that), but when I do finally give in and buy a blaster it'll probably be a rival. I'm thinking of ways to modify the ammo to pump up the accuracy even more (most mods involving glueing on thin plastic ribbons, or embedding a staple into the dart to shift the center of mass away from the center and create a distinct "tail" end, or some way of imparting spin on the dart itself). Is there a substantial cost or availability difference between rival ammo and elite darts?

I haven't done any formal tests myself yet, but at first glance, the Rival blasters, at least the Apollo seems less affected by wind although when the wind picked up I believe I saw more of a hop up effect than normal. Heavier, or maybe the wind just acts on it differently because of the dimples? I don't know yet but this is what I have noticed. I gave up on elites, I needed better shot placement at far distances so I now use Xplorer V2's and soon V3 dart heads and EVA hollow core foam using Go2 glue to assemble them, much more accurate. However FvJ's and ACC darts for my Retaliator and Crimsonstrike Metal Parts Recon for backup aren't bad either, but not for an Airblaster, insane spring pistol or Xplorer Longshot like I have.

the rival blaster is from what i have heard from other reviews mostly an inside blaster. also the spin of the wheels needs a few seconds to allow time to get the full fps off the muzzle.

I don't think you have the required tools for this, so take it for what it is. Something is like to see, you might know someone or find a way to get it done. I'd like to see what the impacts look like at different ranges. As in a flat panel force gauge being struck by the same three blasters (maybe add a lipo 180 stryfe), using the major darts types (elite, suction, koosh, Stefan, slug) and rival round in relation to initial velocity.

Hi coop a quick question with the copy Nerf rival hi impact rounds would there be an advantage if there was no hop up as chances are they would go a better distance without all the back spin sending them upwards??? As so far In a few comparison videos with rival rounds vs the copy's they all go skyward. Also is there a reason Nerf made the rounds so big? Surely paintball size or smaller would be better?? I just got the Apollo yesterday and it's 10x better than regular blasters its insanely we used to do dodging competitions on elite about 15 feet away it was pretty easy we did it with the Apollo almost impossible to dodge

It most definitely isn't, and velocity is defined by the blaster/gun's flywheel, spring, or other propulsion mechanism.

Hey man - I was wondering whether you could help me with something. I'm starting to plan a party that's going to involve various shenanigans - one involving a Nerf battle. Before I invest in any products I need to work out the best ones to consider for the occasion. I've found that over time, the elite rounds become too flexible and don't fire properly because they no longer provide an adequate seal for the propulsion mechanism. Are there any similar problems with the rival rounds or do they handle repeated use without reducing in quality? Thanks so much.

Miles Peckover Well, hoy he doesn’t answer to you, I’ll do it instead. In my experience, using the Rival rounds, I never found such a wear out issues like in the elite rounds. This is more reasonable, because they are foam type balls. They do get squish but return to shape easily, even if you mark, bend or scratch ‘em. If you do this with the normal elite darts, you will definitely affect drastically the accuracy, distance or even make possibility of jam. And yes, the glue that sustain the tips of the darts, by the time of use and stress that you put on them will became loosy, so you should take a lot more care of handling and avoid stepping over normal darts.
