I feel like that's just from the inability to have two characters named the same thing, due to the files, and the name script reading directly from the name of the characters, so they made a separate character that was just all black with Starved's icon and changed the character to that one at the end instead of making it an animation of the character.

I raise you a theory. Because why would Starved want to waste a perfectly good meal? Furnace grabbed Tails but something went wrong, horribly charring his fur and skin, turning it black. Tails escaped from furnace and Starved thanks to the malfunction. Tails starts to formulate another plan to take down the mad doctor, but a meal goes stale after a while doesn’t it?

I have a theory to explain why "Miles" appears as a girl: Remember Hog? That pirated Sonic cartridge? Well I want to believe this is an alternate version of Hog where he doesn't turn into a giant monster and is just a more normal Sonic.exe. , and of course...because this is another alternative version of Hog, in this version "Tails" does appear, but being a pirated sonic cartridge...here instead of Tails appearing as a child.. ."Miles" appears as a girl, do you understand me?... if so, fine and if not... well... you'll see.
