1 - Roberto Carlos was left-footed. 2 - The kick that the other guy explaining(Not Michael) performed was a finesse shot, the kick Roberto Carlos did was a trivela. 3 - It would be better if, instead of only showing those animations(That were very cool BTW), you showed the actual free-kick, at least once.

There needs to be a Mythbusters-esque experiment done with this question in which the ball is made to spin upon a platform before being knocked forward with perfectly measured force to try to boomerang it.

Mordern projectiles are spun when fired. If you look inside the barrel there will be grooves that cause the bullet to rotate. This is called Rifling, what it does is increase the accuracy and the travel distance of the projectile, while helping it maintain a high velocity for a longer period of time. If the crosswind hitting a bullet is from it's left, the magnus effect will cause the bullet to drop slower, from the right causes it to drop faster because bullets rotate clockwise.

Technically, a bullet usually curves to the right, since the rifling inside is designed to make it spin in that direction. Usually the effect is relatively unnoticeable unless one takes a close look at the trajectory, seeing that most bullets hit something before they get to a distance to be of any effect.

you kick under it, you get a powerful backspin, but most of the momentum is going upward, gravity removes that momentum, which allows the spin to take hold of the trajectory.

With the increased height of the kicker, what he was trying to imply was the increase in mass. Assuming the length of the kicker is stationary or consistent increased height would mean larger volume and hence greater mass. Since: F=ma, increased m(mass) means increased force.

Paulo Matos Wrong, I'm american, from South America, and i wasn't expecting that. That shows U.S.A. people put their own stupid names for everything: soccer to football, billion instead of a thousand million, America to just a country (same as if Germany starts to name themselves "Europe"), and a large list of etc. America has over 963 million habitants, U.S.A.-is-not-america Paulo: sé que no eres estadounidense, lucha por nuestra identidad!, saludos

Sebastian Lazcano You fail at logic. He said that only Americans waited for an American football. That means that there can be both Americans who expected it and Americans who didn't, but there aren't any non-Americans who expected that. So the fact that you're American doesn't make his statement wrong.
@andreyleonel255
@andreyleonel255 6 жыл бұрын
Major Katzmann To be real, *he's right in some of his statements!* Like, most of U.S.A people just say "I'm American" or referes to U.S.A as AMERICA because *got used to it, doesn't think about it.* But this is some wrong stuff, *U.S.A isn't America, America is the Continent!* *(This may have happened at some point in the past, where America was showing its power!)*

most of the momentum going upwards would be lost to gravity, but gravity would not effect the backspin, meaning the backspin wouldn't have to fight the other forces as much... making it more effective with less force needed.

If you alter the meaning of boomerang to mean that after the ball is kicked horizontally away from the player it comes back, boomeranging it surely wouldn't be that hard. You could kick nearly vertically up with backspin so it would come back.
@SyntheticFuture
@SyntheticFuture 11 жыл бұрын
Smaller balls = less resistance from the air = less effect from the spin, although that could be compensated by using different materials... but that would probably make the drag so high that you still need the extra power for it to move forward.
@FalcoGer
@FalcoGer 11 жыл бұрын
the point is that the ball drops to the ground before it completes the circle, so if you keep it in the air longer it can then do the full turn. proberbly best to do this without gravity with some sort of gas around (just a thought experiment)

the ball would need to be heavier since a small ball would be more likely be stopped by air resistance. since it would not be massive enough to keep its momentum.

I suppose according to your definition of "boomerang", you can't put a vertical spin on the ball instead of a horizontal spin? Basically I'm saying, kick the ball straight forward and up with a vertical spin, then the ball slows and reverses it's forward momentum and comes back to you assisted by gravity.
