Vaughan I held my breath when you put the wheel on high speed trimming your plates ! Well done, must be all those years of experience. My last plate went flying ha ha ha

These pieces look so organic and useable, lovely glaze combination. I have made a few bowls with a wavy rim, using a cut-off wire held firmly and shortened between my hands. Similar effect but a little harder to control! Thanks again for the videos you do. By the way here on the West coast we've just experienced an "atmospheric river" of RAIN and wind, giving me glaze ideas!

Great that your cat is all better now. Another great video. I noticed that you have what looks like a Simon Leach kick wheel. Do you ever use it? Also, would you consider doing a short video on how you wrap and box your pieces, like bowls, etc., for shipping? Thanks so much again for your wonderful videos.

Hi Horace. I bought the kick wheel to demo on at my side door, just before Covid struck. Now my studio is closed to the public so it sits waiting for Covid to end. I would have to wear a mask all day if I let customers into the studio. Luckily we built the gallery building just before Covid (BC), so we sell through a separate building to the studio.
@triciac10192 жыл бұрын
@@Vsmithpots I go to a studio and wear a mask the whole time. I am vaccinated and boosted, but want to still take precautions. Not everyone does wear a mask at the studio. It sure is so.ething you have to get used to. Now they are saying we should wear an N95. I need to get some of those. I don't want to stop now that I have gotten back into pottery.

Glad the kitty has recovered! I love these plates and hope one day to be able to visit your shop. I watch your videos when I need to regain hope that one day I will be able to work on pottery more than 1 piece every few months. You are talented, skilled and generous with us - thank you! 🙏🏼🌈💙

Wonderful news about kitty's recovery!!! Do you have a weight that you like to use for the plates? I always feel like it's a guessing game on how much clay to use for larger items. I've gotten good at estimating weight with the smaller pieces but I think that's because I don't make larger pieces as often. Thank you for the video - I will give the wavy plate a go with speckled buff and maple leaf imprints while I still have some on the tree - I expect the tree will be bare very soon - it's fully colored and raining leaves right now. Best regards to you, your wife and the kitties -- oh yes, the sea gulls and raccoon too 😉

Do you wedge your clay? Or have a pugmill? Hard/older clay is difficult to throw for me.
@Vsmithpots3 жыл бұрын
I do not wedge the clay if it is new. I do have a pug mill to recycle my clay.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge Vaughan! I'm wondering, do you trim the bottoms first and then make the wobble rim?
@Vsmithpots3 жыл бұрын
I do the rims first while the clay is pliable.

Could you please do a video on how to clean up the bottoms of pots that have kiln stilt marks or glaze dribbles that stuck to a kiln shelf or kiln cookie? I am not happy with the way my finished pieces look and feel on the bottoms after I have ground them down. I must be doing something wrong. :-(
@Vsmithpots3 жыл бұрын
I have started to refire some pieces upside down on stilts. The grinding always leaves a little mark. I use a pebble to burnish bottoms while I am trimming them. The secret seems to be to use a thin opaque glaze on the bottoms.
