Hello Angry Admin, it's a fantastic video. nicely edited😃. Thanks a lots 🤟 Can you please list down and share the pre-requisites of upgrading vCenter Server?
@AngryAdmin Жыл бұрын
1. Compatibility: Check the VMware Product Interoperability Matrix to ensure compatibility. 2. System Requirements: Check the VMware documentation for the specific version you plan to upgrade to for detailed requirements. 3. Backup and Snapshot: Perform a full backup of your vCenter Server and associated databases before starting the upgrade process. This backup ensures that you can restore the system if any issues arise during the upgrade. 4. Compatibility with Plugins and Solutions: Check the VMware Product Interoperability Matrix to ensure compatibility. 5. DNS: Network Connectivity: Verify that the network connectivity between vCenter Server and the hosts is stable and working correctly. Any network issues can impact the upgrade process.

Good job. Just to confirm, you didn't have to change the IP from 124 to 122 did you? It automatically changed the new server from 124 to 122? Thanks
@AngryAdmin6 ай бұрын
Yes , temporary IP will be changed automatically to your original one.

Thank you for this very helpful video. A couple of questions, if you don't mind: Does the new VC8 have to keep the same name as the old VC7? You renamed the old one to _old so that you could re-use the old name, but is that necessary? Would I just have to change the DNS entry for the VC to match the new name? I plan on trying to power up and use the old VC7, similar to the previous commenter's question. Just to verify, you suggest changing the IP of the old VC7 and powering it up to see if that would work? Thanks!

Hey @dennisbuck9643 , no you don't need to keep the name same. Yes you need to add new record to DNS.

Great video. I have a question. Can I run an upgrade to a new vcenter version. But change the hostname IP address on the V8 system. Then bring back online the v7 vcenter. I have some proliant server hardware that only supports v7. I want to then detach supported V8 hosts from v7 and attach to V8. If that makes sense? Thanks! 👍

Not during the upgrade process. You can change your vCenter IP after upgrade. Now what you can try, as I have not test it, once you have IP changed, power on old VC and try to use old IP. But again I haven't tested it
