the paint looks great to me, the paint will always shrink as it dries, that's why it goes like an orange skin, if you want check out aussie gunman, he does a real nice spray job and gives lots of tips to getting the best finish from a gun.

I spent 17 years as a PBE Jobber and I can tell you’ve had some instruction from a pro painter. You just need to slow your pass a bit for less orange peel. Try practicing with a metronome to get the perfect cadence in your sweep timing. ONE HUGE TIP: GROUND YOUR PARTS and you will get far less trash. Also, stick a drier sheet inside your tack rag to minimize static, especially good for plastic parts that you can’t ground. (don’t let the drier sheet touch the surface). Paint molecules collide with each other when spraying causing static electricity that attracts dust so anything airborne will land in your paint if you don’t eliminate the static.

Pro tip for doors. install latches first before installing doors, then set back door in jam first, latched, then bolt hinges. This will get the door centered and gaped. Then do the same with front door (before installing fender) latch installed first then latch door and bolt hinges. Again this centers the door and sets the gaps. Then fender last. This allows you to install the doors without help and you don't have to try and hold the door at an open angle while trying to get your hinge bolts started. Hope this helps. Great job, keep it up.

Nice work on the painting 😊 Being an occasional DIY spray painter myself I find the clear coat is the hardest to master. There's such a fine line between enough product on the panel that it flows together nicely and too much product so you get runs n sags. At least a bit of orange peel is easier to buff than removing runs 😉
@joshcarlisle60094 жыл бұрын
Runs are air control and just to many coats but mostly air control on gun setting

Good job on the painting the door...your technique is very robotic and steady with nice over laps...unlike the goonz which spray scared..and look like he swatting flys... As for the orange peal..try using a slow reducer... and slow down when spray clear...your secound coat of clear should wetter or you may need reapply another coat if you dont feel comfortable hammering on clear on the second coat... your second coat should be glass smooth with in seconds after appling... if not your spraying to scared... My other advice is to use a ws400 for clear... that gun is a beast for clear.

Way back in the day, I was taught not to mix filler with the spreader. Use a paint stick. That way it's impossible to end up with partially unmixed filler on the spreader, which could end up on the vehicle. Just passing some probably worthless info along. :)
@eriklarson91374 жыл бұрын
Another tip that is worth what it costs. :) I buy huge bulk nitrile gloves.When I get to the point of sealing, and really even priming and sanding, I wear them. You hands secrete oil. Oil and paint = fisheye. Once you have one job ruined by fisheye, you will do whatever you can to avoid that. :) Keep at it man. You are straight KILLING it!!!
@eriklarson91374 жыл бұрын
Last thing. I am not sure how many factory panels are left on the truck, but many cars have a lot of orange peel from the factory. Match it. If you only wet sand a few panels, and make them glassy, painters will notice that from across the parking lot. :)

Just a quick pointer when you're wiping down the panels pre paint I always wear gloves. You went and took the time to wipe them down and although you're not handling them too much all it takes is one greasy finger print to mess up a spray. Regarding the orange peel - its tough to tell in the video vs being there but go back and look at when you're spraying the base coat. The coat doesn't look wet / heavy enough to lay down. Could be several reasons the gun pressure is too high, the spray pattern too wide, or you're just moving too fast for the setup of the gun. Anyhow it should come out with some elbow grease. Not bad for your first try!
